Job Summary

We are looking for a dedicated Consultant to join our Emergency Department team, specializing in pediatric emergency care. This role requires a strong commitment to delivering high-quality patient care in accordance with established medical protocols and clinical guidelines. The Consultant will play a vital role in ensuring patient safety, participating in academic activities, and driving continuous quality improvement to achieve optimal clinical outcomes. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team—including nursing, administrative, and allied health professionals—is essential to maintain the highest standards of practice. Additionally, the Consultant will contribute to research and educational initiatives within the department.

Key Responsibilities

The Consultant will ensure strict adherence to medical protocols and clinical guidelines throughout all stages of patient care in the Emergency Department. This includes managing triage, fast track processes, resuscitation, bedside observations, diagnosis, initial treatment, and safe patient discharge or transfer.

Conducting bedside rounds for patients classified as P1 and P2 is a critical responsibility, with sign-offs performed according to Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) standards. Active participation in Mortality and Morbidity meetings is mandatory and forms part of the performance evaluation process.

The role involves engaging in weekly Continuing Medical Education (CME) quizzes to maintain and enhance clinical knowledge. The Consultant will collaborate closely with the Physician Incharge to review cases involving preventable deaths and unplanned patient revisits, ensuring lessons are learned and care is improved.

Monitoring monthly compliance with medical protocols is essential to maintain consistent quality of care. The Consultant will also support and contribute to research activities aimed at improving clinical outcomes and assist in strategic planning and implementation of quality improvement initiatives within the Emergency Department.

Developing and updating clinical protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in consultation with supervisors is expected. Building and maintaining strong working relationships with Emergency Department nursing staff, administrative personnel, allied health professionals, and faculty from public sector hospitals supported by the ChildLife Foundation is vital to the role.

Professional Conduct and Discipline

Punctuality is mandatory, with a maximum grace period of 15 minutes for reporting to official duties. Repeated late arrivals may impact leave entitlements. During on-call duties, adherence to the dress code is required, including wearing scrubs, lab coats, or both, and carrying personal examination tools such as a torch and stethoscope. The use of mobile phone torches for patient assessment is discouraged.

Compliance with organizational policies regarding the mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during on-call shifts is strictly enforced, with non-compliance subject to disciplinary action. The Consultant must also rigorously follow hand hygiene protocols in line with World Health Organization (WHO) standards.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must hold a medical degree with specialization relevant to pediatric emergency care. Proficiency in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) guidelines is essential. Demonstrated experience in emergency department clinical practice is required, along with a strong commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and academic participation. The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team is also necessary.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

Experience in conducting clinical research and quality improvement initiatives is highly desirable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important to foster effective collaboration across diverse healthcare disciplines.

This full-time position offers a competitive monthly remuneration ranging from Rs180,000 to Rs200,000. The role includes opportunities to contribute to protocol development and participate in ongoing educational activities. A structured performance evaluation system supports professional growth and accountability.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply by the deadline of 30th July 2025.
