The Junior Production Engineer role at Cornwala Plant is an on-site position focused on maintaining safe and efficient shift operations with zero lost time incidents. You will be responsible for optimizing the use of people and machinery while ensuring adherence to the production plan. Reporting to the Principal Engineer, you will supervise a team of Operators, Helpers, and Packers to achieve production targets and uphold quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Production Management: Record shift production and dispatch data in the SAP system, manage manpower allocation to ensure smooth shift operations, and meet production targets for both quality and quantity. Control product losses, prepare shift-wise production reports, and manage worker attendance. Monitor lab results and provide instructions to operators accordingly. Ensure accurate log sheet entries by operators and maintain shift performance reports. Coordinate timely withdrawal of manufacturing materials and supplies from stores.
- Quality Assurance: Collaborate with the Shift Chemist to identify and address in-process non-conformances. Ensure proper segregation of different product grades and verify that weighing scales are calibrated and functioning correctly.
- Maintenance Oversight: Monitor the performance and upkeep of process equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and cleanliness of the production area. Liaise with Shift Engineers from other divisions to coordinate plant shutdowns or partial operations during load shedding.
- Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing processes and implementing technological advancements. Promote innovation and adopt a logical, analytical approach to problem-solving to enhance operational efficiency.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure the safety of products, equipment, and personnel during shifts by enforcing the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to work permits for technical tasks. Conduct training sessions on Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards and production processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (B.Sc/B.E) with preferably over one year of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and operation of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Sequential Logic Controllers (SLC).
Preferred Skills and Attributes
- Experience in labor management and plant troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) procedures.
- Awareness of safety and environmental regulations.
