Kitchen Assistant

We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design and delivery of features within a large, long-standing .NET product. In this role, you will collaborate with fellow senior developers to transform rough briefs into fully functional screens, application code, database enhancements, and optimized queries, ensuring timely delivery. You will take full ownership of features from conception through production, leveraging AI tools like Cursor and Claude to enhance development efficiency while maintaining accountability for all code merged into the product.

Key Responsibilities
- Take end-to-end ownership of features, including interaction design, screen development, business logic, data modeling, and query optimization, ensuring reliability for daily users.
- Write and modify production C# code, maintaining existing functionality, aligning new work with the current architecture, and improving code quality.
- Develop the integration between the .NET host and embedded web screens, managing messaging between C# and JavaScript to keep user interfaces consistent.
- Design and implement database components such as tables and indexes, create safe migration scripts, and tune queries and reports for performance under real data volumes.
- Create and maintain operational reports and exports, including grids, formatted documents, and spreadsheets.
- Support background processing tasks and manage releases across live customer environments.
- Utilize AI coding tools to accelerate development, carefully reviewing every change and only shipping code that is fully understood and explainable.
- Introduce AI features judiciously, ensuring clear data boundaries and protecting customer and personal data from exposure in prompts, logs, or third-party tools.
- Provide accurate estimates based on code review, prioritize work to deliver usable functionality early, and communicate risks promptly to adjust scope while meeting user needs.

Required Qualifications
- Strong, current production experience with C# and .NET, including object-oriented design and writing maintainable code for senior developer teams.
- Proven problem-solving skills, capable of interpreting unclear briefs, identifying constraints in code and data, and delivering functional solutions.
- Proficiency in frontend technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript sufficient to design and build embedded screens that are responsive and consistent with the .NET interface.
- Solid backend development experience in production C# for business logic, data access, and hosting embedded screens.
- Expertise in SQL Server, including schema and index design, query tuning, execution plan analysis, and writing safe migration scripts.
- Practical knowledge of Azure services relevant to .NET applications, with strict adherence to security practices that keep secrets and customer data out of code, logs, and AI prompts.
- Daily experience with GitLab workflows, including branching, merge requests, and code reviews.
- Strong communication skills, able to clearly explain designs, risks, and timelines both in writing and verbally, enabling timely team action.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience working on large Windows Forms applications and modernizing .NET products by integrating web screens alongside existing Windows interfaces.
- Ability to analyze poor execution plans, add appropriate indexes, and rewrite report queries without altering results.
- Familiarity with daily AI-assisted coding tools, maintaining discipline to ensure generated code fits product patterns and is reviewed thoroughly.
- A consistent track record of committing to releases and delivering them fully, including handling regressions, data fixes, and final user requirements before go-live.
- Good security practices, ensuring credentials are excluded from source code and logs, and treating customer and personal data in compliance with regulations.
- Additional advantages include experience in education or student-information systems, reporting and document generation within .NET applications, performance tuning on large reporting databases and background jobs, and implementing automated tests where feasible.
