Lady Health Visitor

The Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan (AKHS, P), a prominent not-for-profit healthcare organization under the Aga Khan Development Network, is dedicated to delivering quality healthcare across Pakistan through a wide network of hospitals, medical centers, and community programs. AKHS, P is currently seeking an experienced Lady Health Visitor (LHV) to provide comprehensive healthcare services at its facilities and outreach sites. Reporting to the Assistant Manager Community Health, the LHV will assess patient health needs, deliver nursing and preventive care, identify health risks, offer health education and counseling, and refer patients to appropriate healthcare providers. The role also involves supporting community health initiatives, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with healthcare standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct routine health assessments and check-ups for pregnant women, newborns, children, adults, and elderly clients.
- Provide nursing and patient care services following approved clinical protocols and physician instructions.
- Perform antenatal, postnatal, newborn, child, and elderly care assessments, identifying conditions requiring further management.
- Monitor children’s growth and development and assess immunization status.
- Administer vaccinations according to approved protocols.
- Identify early signs of illness, malnutrition, developmental delays, and other health risks, referring clients as needed.
- Deliver counseling and health education on prenatal care, breastfeeding, nutrition, hygiene, disease prevention, and family planning.
- Conduct home visits to monitor health and facilitate access to healthcare and support services.
- Provide elderly care screening and raise awareness about senior citizen health.
- Offer emotional and psychosocial support to mothers, including postpartum care, and refer specialized cases.
- Conduct awareness sessions, health talks, and community campaigns on maternal, child, family, and community health.
- Maintain accurate patient records, nursing notes, vaccination records, and other documentation using HMIS and paper-based systems.
- Prepare reports on health status and highlight areas requiring follow-up.
- Monitor vital signs and pain levels during visits and report significant findings to physicians.
- Perform clinical procedures such as infusion and nebulization as advised.
- Conduct point-of-care testing including hemoglobin and cholesterol tests.
- Collaborate closely with medical doctors in patient assessment and management.
- Provide healthcare services during assigned morning, evening, and outreach hours.
- Maintain medical supplies, document stock status, and ensure functionality of medical equipment.
- Keep records of preventive and periodic maintenance for equipment.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and licensing requirements for equipment, vaccines, and infrastructure.
- Conduct routine equipment checks and respond to safety concerns or incidents.
- Support training and supervision of novice staff in outpatient and healthcare settings.
- Utilize relevant computer applications for patient documentation, billing, and reporting.
- Participate in organizational training and implement care services accordingly.
- Serve as unit receptionist, including cash management, in the absence of the receptionist.
- Perform other duties assigned to support clinic operations and quality patient care.

Delivery Responsibilities (where applicable)

- Conduct patient deliveries independently following approved protocols.
- Provide care throughout labor, delivery, and postpartum periods.
- Offer immediate newborn care and identify high-risk cases for timely referral.
- Provide abortion care and family planning counseling post-delivery.
- Ensure availability and sterilization of delivery equipment and maintain maintenance records.
- Report equipment replacement or maintenance needs promptly.

Required Qualifications

- Diploma in Lady Health Visitor or Midwifery from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC).
- Minimum of one year relevant professional experience; fresh candidates with valid PNC registration are also encouraged to apply.
