The Lead Product Designer at KnowledgeCity plays a pivotal role in shaping the design direction for a comprehensive suite of learning and workforce products across web and mobile platforms within an AI-native operating model. Reporting directly to the Head of Product, this role involves owning and evolving the design system, UX standards, and the UX Designer AI agent that Product Engineers utilize to create and build products. This position goes beyond traditional design responsibilities, focusing on designing systems that AI agents collaborate with, encoding design principles and components into AI-driven workflows, and leading critical cross-product user experiences. Success is measured by the quality and consistency of AI-generated designs across the platform.
Key Responsibilities
- AI-Native Design System: Own and continuously develop the design system, design tokens, and component library as a machine-readable source of truth consumed directly by AI agents and code generators. Ensure support for theming (company, app, client branding), localization, right-to-left layouts, and accessibility compliance.
- UX Designer Agent Ownership: Manage, configure, and train the UX Designer AI agent by writing and maintaining its skills, prompts, and design rules. Define review criteria and quality gates, and improve the agent based on audit results to guarantee consistent, production-quality designs for Product Engineers.
- AI-First Design Workflow: Utilize AI tools end-to-end in the design process, including concept generation, interactive prototyping in code, research synthesis, UX copywriting, and documentation, enabling rapid progression from idea to validated prototype.
- Design-to-Code Quality: Collaborate closely with Product Engineers and their AI Developer agents to ensure designs translate accurately into working user interfaces. Review AI-generated screens and front-end code against the design system prior to release.
- Cross-Product Experience Design: Personally design key platform experiences such as employee and administrator homepages, client-branded templates, app navigation, sign-in flows, and transitions between products.
- AI-Powered UX Audits: Conduct continuous UX audits across all products using the UX agent in auditor mode, scoring designs against standards and converting findings into prioritized tickets for Product Engineers.
- Accessibility & Localization: Ensure all new features comply with WCAG 2.1 AA standards and that right-to-left and multilingual experiences are integrated from the outset, embedding these requirements into the agent’s skills.
- Research & Validation: Lead lightweight user research and usability testing with clients, administrators, and end users. Use AI to synthesize findings and analytics, validating designs before development.
- Design Governance & Documentation: Maintain version-controlled design standards, decision records, and agent skills documentation. Log design feedback as tickets tied to product epics and track resolution.
- Leadership & Continuity: Provide design leadership across the product portfolio, coach Product Engineers on design quality and AI agent operation, and collaborate with the design team to ensure continuous design progress.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of product design experience (UX and UI), including at least 2 years leading design across multiple products or platforms.
- Proven ownership of a design system and component library supporting multiple product teams, including design tokens and theming.
- Hands-on, daily experience using AI in design workflows, including AI design and prototyping tools, large language models (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT), and AI coding tools.
- Skilled in writing prompts, rules, or skills to guide AI tools for consistent, on-brand output, with strong critical judgment of AI-generated designs.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end B2B SaaS design work, including complex admin interfaces, dashboards, data-intensive screens, and user flows.
- Expertise in Figma (components, variants, auto layout, libraries) and proficiency in prototyping directly in code.
- Practical experience with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA) and designing for right-to-left and multilingual products.
- Working knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, web components, and React, and understanding of AI-assisted development workflows.
- Bachelor’s degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Visual Design, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Advanced proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
