The Lead System Engineer is a senior technical leader within the Collaboration & Productivity Platforms team, responsible for architecting, engineering, securing, automating, governing, and supporting enterprise Microsoft 365 services. This role covers a broad range of technologies including Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Purview, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and associated email security platforms. The Lead System Engineer provides advanced Level 3/4 escalation support, drives platform strategy and governance, leads complex technical projects, mentors engineering staff, and collaborates closely with Security, Infrastructure, Legal, HR, and business stakeholders to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable collaboration services across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

- Own the design, administration, performance, capacity, security, and lifecycle management of Microsoft 365 collaboration and productivity services, ensuring platform health, availability, and scalability.
- Lead the resolution of complex incidents and escalations to maintain uninterrupted service delivery.
- Implement and enhance Microsoft Purview capabilities, including Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Information Protection, Sensitivity Labels, Retention, Records Management, and eDiscovery.
- Strengthen data governance and email security controls such as SPF, DKIM, and DMARC to protect organizational assets.
- Develop and maintain automation solutions using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, Power Automate, and Azure Automation to improve operational efficiency.
- Drive process standardization, proactive monitoring, self-service capabilities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support Microsoft 365 Copilot governance, data readiness, secure adoption, use-case enablement, and ongoing optimization.
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure responsible and effective adoption of AI-powered productivity solutions.
- Lead cross-functional projects, conduct architecture reviews, perform root-cause analysis, and manage vendor relationships.
- Establish engineering standards, maintain comprehensive technical documentation, and mentor engineers across the organization.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor to business, infrastructure, and security teams.
- Participate in scheduled on-call support rotations to provide timely incident response.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 8 years of enterprise IT engineering experience.
- At least 5 years of hands-on Microsoft 365 engineering or administration experience.
- Advanced expertise with Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise collaboration platforms.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Purview, including DLP, Information Protection, Retention, Records Management, or eDiscovery.
- Proficiency in PowerShell automation and scripting.
- Experience with Microsoft Graph, Azure Automation, or Power Automate.
- Solid understanding of SMTP routing, mail flow, and email security protocols such as SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
- Demonstrated skills in incident management, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem resolution.
- Ability to lead projects, mentor engineers, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Willingness to participate in on-call support rotations.
