Lead Web Applications Developer - Databricks

Key Responsibilities
Architect and design secure, scalable, and maintainable Databricks web applications using React, TypeScript, Python, and FastAPI. Lead the development of responsive, accessible user interfaces featuring reusable components, modern state management, and compliance with design-system standards. Develop backend services in Python and FastAPI, including REST APIs, request validation, asynchronous workflows, and integration layers. Integrate FastAPI services with Databricks components such as Delta Lake tables, SQL warehouses, jobs, notebooks, Unity Catalog, and model-serving endpoints. Define frontend-backend contracts, API versioning, error handling, caching, state management, and application performance benchmarks. Implement authentication, authorization, service principals, secrets management, and data access controls aligned with Unity Catalog. Establish automated testing frameworks for React components, FastAPI services, APIs, and Databricks integrations, alongside CI/CD and production deployment processes. Optimize API latency, frontend responsiveness, Databricks query performance, compute utilization, reliability, observability, and cost efficiency. Lead and mentor a small team of full-stack Databricks application developers, enforcing engineering best practices and conducting rigorous code reviews. Collaborate closely with product owners, UX designers, data engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders within an Agile delivery environment.

Required Qualifications
Minimum of 8 years in software engineering, with extensive experience in full-stack web application development and data platform integration. At least 2 years in a technical leadership or team lead role. Advanced proficiency in Python and hands-on experience designing production APIs and backend services using FastAPI. Strong expertise in React and TypeScript, including component architecture, hooks, routing, state management, responsive design, and accessibility standards. Proven experience working with Databricks, Delta Lake, Databricks SQL, Unity Catalog, and deploying or integrating applications on the Databricks platform. Demonstrated ability to integrate FastAPI applications with Databricks APIs, SQL warehouses, jobs, notebooks, and model-serving endpoints. Deep understanding of REST API design principles, OpenAPI specifications, asynchronous programming, data validation, error handling, and application security. Familiarity with authentication and authorization frameworks such as OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect, service principals, secrets management, and secure coding practices. Track record of transforming analytical prototypes into scalable, production-ready React and FastAPI applications. Excellent communication, technical leadership, and stakeholder management skills. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience with React tooling and libraries such as Vite, Redux Toolkit or React Query, Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright. Proficiency with Python tooling including Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, Pytest, dependency management, linting, and type checking. Familiarity with Databricks Asset Bundles, Databricks CLI, Git-based workflows, Docker, and automated deployment pipelines. Experience operating Databricks and web applications on cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud. Knowledge of MLflow, Mosaic AI Model Serving, application observability, performance monitoring, and AI-enabled application patterns.
