Lead Web Applications Developer - Databricks

Key Responsibilities

- Architect and design secure, scalable, and maintainable Databricks web applications using React, TypeScript, Python, and FastAPI.
- Lead the development of responsive and accessible user interfaces by utilizing reusable React components, modern state management, and design-system standards.
- Design and implement backend services with Python and FastAPI, including REST APIs, request validation, asynchronous workflows, and integration layers.
- Integrate FastAPI services with Databricks components such as Delta Lake tables, SQL warehouses, jobs, notebooks, Unity Catalog, and model-serving endpoints.
- Define frontend-backend contracts, API versioning, error handling, caching, state management, and application performance standards.
- Implement robust authentication, authorization, service principals, secrets management, and data access controls aligned with Unity Catalog.
- Establish automated testing frameworks for React components, FastAPI services, APIs, and Databricks integrations, alongside CI/CD and production deployment best practices.
- Optimize API latency, frontend responsiveness, Databricks query efficiency, compute usage, reliability, observability, and cost management.
- Lead and mentor a small team of full-stack Databricks application developers, enforcing strong engineering and code review standards.
- Collaborate closely with product owners, UX designers, data engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders within an Agile delivery environment.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in software engineering, including full-stack web application development and data platform integration in production environments.
- At least 2 years in a technical leadership or team lead role.
- Advanced proficiency in Python with strong hands-on experience designing production APIs and services using FastAPI.
- Extensive experience with React and TypeScript, including component architecture, hooks, routing, state management, responsive design, and accessibility.
- Solid hands-on experience with Databricks platform components such as Delta Lake, Databricks SQL, Unity Catalog, and related application integrations.
- Proven ability to integrate FastAPI applications with Databricks APIs, SQL warehouses, jobs, notebooks, and model-serving endpoints.
- Deep understanding of REST API design principles, OpenAPI specifications, asynchronous programming, data validation, error handling, and application security.
- Familiarity with authentication and authorization protocols such as OAuth 2.0 or OpenID Connect, service principals, secrets management, and secure coding practices.
- Demonstrated success in transforming analytical prototypes into reliable, scalable, production-ready React and FastAPI applications.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

- Experience with React tooling and libraries such as Vite, Redux Toolkit or React Query, Jest, React Testing Library, and Playwright.
- Familiarity with Python tooling including Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, Pytest, dependency management, linting, and type checking.
- Experience working with Databricks Asset Bundles, Databricks CLI, Git-based workflows, Docker, and automated deployment pipelines.
- Operational experience with Databricks and web application workloads on cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Knowledge of MLflow, Mosaic AI Model Serving, application observability, performance monitoring, and AI-enabled application patterns.
