The Manager role focuses on leading audit and assurance engagements primarily within the financial services sector, including banks, digital and microfinance banks, insurance and takaful companies, asset management firms, and capital market entities. This position involves delivering high-quality, technology-driven audits in line with PwC’s methodology, professional standards, and regulatory requirements in Pakistan.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage audit engagements from initial planning through to completion, including scoping, risk assessment, audit strategy development, execution, review, and reporting.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of clients’ business models, products, governance structures, regulatory environments, and key financial reporting risks.
- Evaluate significant risks, material judgments, and estimates such as expected credit losses, impairments, fair values, insurance contract liabilities, provisions, investments, revenue recognition, and regulatory capital or solvency issues.
- Apply International Standards on Auditing (ISAs), IFRS Accounting Standards, PwC audit methodology, and comply with requirements set by ICAP, SBP, SECP, AOB, and other regulators.
- Lead and review testing of business processes, internal and automated controls, and data produced by clients; collaborate with IT, actuarial, valuation, tax, and other specialists as needed.
- Ensure audit documentation is thorough, accurate, timely, and supports conclusions and audit opinions.
- Oversee engagement economics including staffing, budgeting, milestones, billing, and recovery, escalating any quality, delivery, or commercial risks promptly.
- Act as the primary day-to-day contact for client management and maintain clear, professional communication with engagement leaders and stakeholders.
- Prepare and review communications for management, audit committees, boards, group auditors, and regulators where applicable.
- Coach, supervise, and review the work of assistant managers, senior associates, and associates, providing constructive feedback and supporting their professional growth.
- Contribute to proposals, client presentations, industry initiatives, training, and business development activities while adhering to independence and ethical standards.
- Promote a culture of quality, integrity, professional scepticism, collaboration, inclusion, and accountability.
Required Qualifications
- Qualified Chartered Accountant and member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP).
- Minimum of three years post-qualification experience, predominantly in external audit and assurance.
- Relevant experience auditing financial services entities, with strong preference for exposure to banking, insurance, asset management, or capital markets.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Strong working knowledge of IFRS Accounting Standards and International Standards on Auditing, with practical experience in IFRS 9; familiarity with IFRS 17 is advantageous for insurance-related assignments.
- Sound understanding of financial services regulations, corporate law, governance requirements, and financial statement presentation applicable in Pakistan.
- Ability to analyze complex transactions, identify audit implications, exercise professional scepticism, and develop practical, well-supported conclusions.
- Excellent engagement management, team leadership, coaching, client-handling, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in audit technology, data analytics, and Microsoft Office applications; experience with PwC audit tools is a plus.
- Capacity to manage multiple engagements simultaneously and meet demanding statutory and internal deadlines.
