Manager, Legal

Oaktree, a global leader in alternative investment management with over $220 billion in assets under management, is seeking an experienced legal professional to oversee third-party commercial contracts across multiple regions, including the USA, EMEA, and APAC. This full-time position is based in Hyderabad and requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure that contracts support the firm’s risk-controlled and value-driven investment philosophy. Key Responsibilities

Manage the end-to-end review, drafting, and negotiation of various third-party commercial contracts, including master service agreements, consultancy agreements, service agreements, engagement letters, staffing agreements, statements of work, non-disclosure agreements, purchase orders, amendments, and other vendor contracts for Oaktree’s corporate entities worldwide. Work closely with the Senior Manager, Legal, to provide sound contractual advice to internal business partners. Support contract lifecycle management by maintaining and standardizing contract templates. Develop and update internal resources such as playbooks, handbooks, guidelines, and trackers to streamline contract review processes. Provide guidance on evolving legal requirements related to regulatory compliance, anti-bribery, data privacy, cybersecurity, and anti-money laundering to ensure contract templates remain compliant. Coordinate with Legal, HR, Compliance, Accounting, and other departments across offices in Los Angeles, London, and Hong Kong to fulfill cross-functional responsibilities. Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with contracts and business operations. Undertake additional projects and tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should be willing to relocate to Hyderabad if necessary. A minimum of 4-6 years of experience is required, either in a law firm or within the financial services or asset management industry. Proven expertise in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements is essential, along with the ability to identify and mitigate legal, regulatory, and commercial risks effectively. Strong knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, industry practices, and trends related to contract management is expected. Experience engaging with senior business stakeholders and managing ambiguity within a complex, matrixed organizational environment is important. Exceptional English writing, drafting, and communication skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

A law degree and/or relevant legal qualifications are preferred. Specialized experience in contract management and proficiency with Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) tools and SharePoint will be advantageous. Strong business judgment with the ability to escalate issues appropriately is valued.
