Key Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end revenue recognition processes under ASC 606 / US GAAP, including journal entries for revenue, deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, and contract assets/liabilities, ensuring timely balance-sheet reconciliations within the close calendar.
- Prepare technical accounting memos and position papers addressing complex topics such as variable consideration, principal versus agent determinations, contract modifications, and financing components.
- Develop detailed revenue schedules and ASC 606 disclosures, including revenue disaggregation, remaining performance obligations (RPO), and contract balances for management, Board, and annual financial reporting.
- Conduct flux and variance analysis, providing month-over-month, quarter-over-quarter, and budget-versus-actual commentary to leadership.
- Oversee accurate and timely billing across various models such as subscription, usage-based, milestone, and time-and-materials, ensuring reconciliation to revenue schedules.
- Support audit and SOX compliance activities by preparing PBC schedules, conducting walkthroughs, and delivering SOX 404 control evidence on schedule.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional qualifications such as CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
- 5 to 9 years of progressive revenue accounting experience, ideally combining public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and industry exposure within SaaS, technology, or services sectors.
- Deep expertise in ASC 606 revenue recognition and US GAAP technical accounting standards.
- Proven hands-on experience managing month-end close cycles, including journal entries, reconciliations, and management reporting deliverables.
- Strong understanding of complex contract structures with the ability to interpret contractual terms into accurate accounting outcomes.
- Proficiency with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, or Workday, alongside revenue automation tools like Salesforce CPQ or equivalents.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and handling large data sets.
- Experience supporting external audits and working within SOX 404 control environments.
- Excellent written communication skills, capable of drafting clear technical accounting memos and policy documentation.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Demonstrated ability to apply the ASC 606 five-step revenue recognition model across diverse arrangements including SaaS subscriptions, licenses, professional services, usage-based, and multi-element contracts.
- Experience analyzing contracts to identify performance obligations, determine standalone selling prices, allocate transaction prices, and establish appropriate revenue recognition timing.
- Familiarity with complex judgments such as variable consideration methods, rights of return, material rights, significant financing components, and non-cash consideration.
- Knowledge of ASC 340-40 related to capitalization and amortization of contract costs, including impairment assessments.
- Ability to assess contract combinations and modifications, including separate-contract and cumulative catch-up treatments.
- Understanding of order-to-cash processes and indirect tax considerations (sales tax, VAT/GST, withholding), coordinating with Tax teams for billing-to-revenue reconciliation and dispute resolution.
- A collaborative mindset with strong stakeholder management skills, influencing cross-functional teams such as Deal Desk, Sales, Legal, and Finance.
