The Manager Taxation is responsible for overseeing an organization’s tax compliance, filings, and strategic tax planning while ensuring full adherence to federal and provincial tax regulations such as those enforced by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), and Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) in Pakistan. This role leads the tax function by managing corporate tax liabilities, handling regulatory audits and notices, and providing expert advice to senior leadership on tax-efficient business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Filings: Prepare, review, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual returns related to income tax, sales tax, and withholding tax (WHT), ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
Audits & Litigation: Manage tax audits, assessments, show-cause notices, appeals, and any legal proceedings involving FBR, PRA, or SRB authorities, maintaining effective communication and documentation throughout the process.
Withholding & Reconciliations: Oversee the calculation and deduction of withholding taxes and ensure reconciliation of tax ledgers with the general ledger to maintain financial accuracy.
Advisory & Planning: Stay updated on changes in tax laws, Finance Acts, and Statutory Regulatory Orders (SROs) to advise management on compliance and develop tax-efficient strategies that align with business objectives.
Team & Stakeholder Management: Supervise and mentor junior tax and finance staff, fostering their professional growth. Coordinate with external auditors, tax consultants, and legal advisors to ensure comprehensive tax management.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
Professional Certification: Chartered Accountant (CA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Institute of Cost and Management Accountants (ICMA), or equivalent professional qualifications are highly preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in corporate taxation or audit firms, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of the Income Tax Ordinance, Sales Tax Act, and practical experience using the FBR IRIS portal. Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP/accounting software such as SAP or Oracle is essential.
Additional Skills: Strong analytical abilities, effective communication skills, and problem-solving aptitude are critical for success in this role.
