This role involves managing and overseeing foreign exchange (FX), money market (MM), and precious metals transactions to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper authorization within the system. The position requires close monitoring of currency positions across branches, controlling trading limits, and verifying exchange and deposit rates to provide customers with correct pricing. Additionally, the role includes reconciling Forex bank deals with customer transactions to prevent exposure risks and ensuring all entries are accurately recorded in the accounting books. Regular analysis of exchange profit and loss supports the identification and correction of any discrepancies.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all deals entered into the system are properly authorized to accurately reflect positions in the trading book.
- Monitor and review currency positions at branch levels, advising on necessary actions to cover exchange exposures.
- Control FX and MM trading limits to prevent dealers from exceeding authorized thresholds.
- Verify exchange and deposit rates to guarantee customers receive accurate and competitive rates.
- Match all Forex bank deals with customer transactions to avoid unintended exchange positions.
- Oversee limits and accounting for precious metal transactions, ensuring compliance with approved limits and accurate recording.
- Review Parity Tolerance Reports to prevent errors related to exchange rates and minimize financial losses.
- Monitor daily exchange profit and loss statements to detect and address any rate-related mistakes.
Management Information System (MIS) Reporting
- Track FX proprietary profit and loss, providing daily and monthly reports to management.
- Ensure all transaction errors have appropriate approvals and report monthly figures to management.
- Conduct monthly revaluation of proprietary Interest Rate Swap deals, update General Ledger accounts, and report profit/loss to management.
- Prepare detailed FX margin and futures customer commission reports, organized by date and customer, for management review.
- Generate corporate customer profit and loss reports by customer, distributing them to Front Office and Corporate Banking Group according to commission-sharing agreements.
- Consolidate monthly Total Commission Margin (TCM) income figures and submit reports to management.
- Prepare all banking returns in compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLA) and share with the Central Accounts Department (CAD).
- Regularly complete surveys received from the Central Bank.
- Prepare returns on unmatured forward exchange contracts, including those related to non-resident customers.
- Compile Statements of Derivatives (IAS-7), post related entries to the General Ledger, and provide reports to CAD.
- Analyze large exposures to non-bank entities and submit reports to CAD.
- Prepare monthly reports on exchange income from vostro accounts.
- Monitor and reconcile sundry creditors and debtors accounts.
- Oversee all suspense accounts, conducting investigations and clearing entries as necessary.
Nostro Management
- Manage Nostro accounts to cover exchange positions and monitor entries posted by other departments and branches, preventing account overdrafts.
- Perform tasks in accordance with policies and guidelines outlined in the Treasury Operations Control (TOC) Manual, adapting to procedural changes as systems evolve.
- Maintain strong working relationships with the Operations division, local and overseas branches, and dealers to facilitate smooth Nostro management and effective exchange position coverage.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in foreign exchange and money market operations, including dealing with FX/MM limits and precious metals transactions.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles related to trading books and General Ledger postings.
- Proficiency in preparing detailed MIS reports and handling regulatory banking returns.
- Familiarity with Nostro account management and treasury operations policies.
- Excellent analytical skills to monitor profit/loss statements and detect discrepancies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple internal teams and external branches.
