Mancad seeks a detail-oriented and energetic Product Design Engineer (Mechanical) to join our dynamic engineering team. This role involves transforming product concepts into production-ready physical components by bridging initial sketches, detailed 3D digital modeling, and hands-on prototyping. The successful candidate will take ownership of mid-level assemblies under the mentorship of a Team Lead while managing a team of 10. This position enables close collaboration across manufacturing facilities, prototyping centers, and design departments to ensure seamless transition from design to production.
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering from a PEC-recognized university and brings over two years of experience in an active product development environment such as an R&D facility or high-tech prototyping lab. Expertise in SolidWorks, engineering documentation, and Design for Manufacturing principles is critical. In addition, familiarity with reverse engineering techniques, tolerance stacking, and physical prototype development is expected. Strong organizational skills and effective communication are essential to managing documentation and coordinating with both internal teams and external vendors.
Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality 3D CAD models and assemblies of complex mechanical components using SolidWorks, ensuring models maintain clean parametric feature trees.
- Optimize designs applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles for plastics injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, and additive manufacturing processes.
- Generate accurate 2D production drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards, guaranteeing precise tolerance control and assembly fit.
- Utilize 3D scanning tools and software, such as Geomagic Design X, to reverse engineer components by reconstructing editable parametric solid bodies from raw mesh data.
- Build, test, and refine physical prototypes, while managing the creation and maintenance of detailed Bills of Materials (BOM) to ensure precise tracking of hardware components.
- Coordinate manufacturing efforts with local machinists, tooling shops, and prototyping hubs, supervising manufacturing quality and ensuring timely delivery according to specifications.
- Manage a multidisciplinary team of 10 engineers and technicians, providing guidance, allocating tasks, and fostering collaboration to achieve project milestones.
- Maintain engineering documentation meticulously to assure repeatability, file version control, and efficient project handover.
- Employ finite element analysis (FEA) and structural simulation tools to validate mechanical designs and predict product performance under operational loads.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing manufacturing feedback and incorporating lessons learned into design iterations.
- Participate actively in cross-functional engineering reviews to align design solutions with business objectives and manufacturing capabilities.
- Promote adherence to company standards, safety protocols, and quality requirements throughout the product development cycle.
