Marathi Language Expert (Remote)

In this remote, hourly contractor position, you will serve as a Marathi Language Specialist (Subject Matter Expert) responsible for reviewing AI-generated Marathi content and creating high-quality Marathi reference materials. Your role involves evaluating language quality and reasoning, providing precise written feedback, and ensuring outputs meet standards for accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, cultural relevance, and prompt adherence. You will identify errors related to meaning, mistranslation, register, ambiguity, and logical consistency, fact-check claims when necessary, and produce high-quality rewrites and model answers that exemplify best practices in Marathi writing. Additionally, you will rate and compare multiple AI-generated responses based on correctness and overall quality. Key Responsibilities
- Review and quality-check existing translations of English science benchmark questions (ARC) into Marathi.
- Compare original translations and AI-proposed corrections against the English source, focusing strictly on accuracy and faithfulness rather than stylistic improvements.
- Evaluate only the question and answer choices, selecting the appropriate outcome: accept the original, accept the AI correction, edit the final translation, or escalate issues as needed.
- Provide concise review comments to justify decisions, ensuring the source’s meaning, difficulty, answer structure, scientific terminology, and protected elements are preserved.
- Follow core and language-specific guidelines meticulously to maintain consistency and quality.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Linguistics, Marathi/English Literature, Communications, Journalism, Translation, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Native or near-native proficiency in Marathi, with strong reading and writing skills.
- Professional proficiency in English (minimum C1 level) to understand guidelines and deliver detailed feedback.
- At least three years of professional experience in writing, editing, localization, translation, content quality assurance, journalism, education, or related language-focused roles.
- Deep understanding of Marathi grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style, with the ability to explain errors and corrections clearly.
- Comfortable managing multiple registers (formal/informal), dialectal variations (e.g., Pune/Mumbai/standard usage versus regional influences), and adapting content for different audiences (India and diaspora).
- Exceptional attention to detail for detecting subtle meaning shifts, awkward literal translations, hallucinated claims, or culturally inappropriate phrasing.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to maintain consistent quality while working remotely across different time zones.
