General Objectives

The Qualitative Research Assistant will support the implementation of qualitative data collection activities in accordance with the study protocol. The position combines qualitative research fieldwork responsibilities with transcription and translation of qualitative data.

The post holder will contribute to the collection, transcription, translation, management, and quality assurance of qualitative data, ensuring data quality and accuracy while upholding ethical standards, MSF principles, confidentiality, and good research practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and actively participate in theoretical and practical training activities related to study procedures, qualitative research methods, and the use of data collection tools.
  • Collaborate in the translation, piloting, and revision of the research tools.
  • Conduct informed consent processes and qualitative data collection in accordance with the approved study protocol.
  • Lead individual interviews, field observations, and focus group discussions, and other qualitative data collection activities as required, taking field notes.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews on transcripts and translations of audio files for data quality and accuracy, and translate transcripts from Urdu and/or Punjabi into English.
  • Maintain a glossary of colloquial terms, expressions, and context-specific terminology, including their agreed English translations.
  • Ensure the quality, completeness, accuracy, and reliability of transcripts and translations within the required timeframe.
  • Submit transcripts and translations to the Qualitative Researcher/Supervisor for validation and incorporate feedback and corrections in a timely manner.
  • Support the organization, management, and secure storage of all qualitative research data, including informed consent forms, audio recordings, field notes, written transcripts, and electronic files, in accordance with protocol procedures and SOPs.
  • Contribute to data validation and discussion of preliminary research findings with healthcare providers and patients, as appropriate.
  • Perform other tasks that may be reasonably delegated in support of the successful implementation of the MDR-DRTB project objectives.
  • Maintain scientific rigor, uphold ethical standards and good research practices during data collection, with full respect for confidentiality and privacy.
  • Participate in supervision activities and debriefing sessions on data collection activities, and be responsible for immediately reporting any issues related to data quality, translation, transcription, confidentiality, or data security to the supervisor.
  • Provide feedback on research findings and contribute to analysis and data validation sessions with providers and patients.
  • Request, maintain, and inventory equipment and supplies necessary for project tasks.
  • Attend and participate in project meetings.
  • Be available to support field-related activities when required.
  • Participate in the interviews of patients, treatment supporters, and healthcare providers in Gujranwala district, Hafizabad, and Gujrat.
