This role involves leading and managing a team primarily composed of midwives, midwife assistants, and related staff within the maternity department. The successful candidate will ensure effective teamwork and maintain professional relationships between the maternity unit and other hospital departments. They will oversee clinical activities across all maternity services, including antenatal consultations, labor and delivery, postnatal care, family planning, and newborn vaccinations. Close collaboration with medical doctors is essential for managing patients requiring specialized care. The role also includes ensuring that all staff are properly trained in the use of medical devices, that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks follow established protocols, and that any equipment malfunctions are promptly reported to biomedical services. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for managing pharmacy-related activities within the department, including monitoring stock and consumption, as well as maintaining medical equipment.

Key Responsibilities

- Supervise, support, and evaluate midwives, midwife assistants, and other maternity staff to ensure high-quality care and professional development.
- Foster teamwork and maintain effective communication between maternity and other hospital departments.
- Oversee clinical activities such as antenatal consultations, labor and delivery, postnatal follow-ups, family planning consultations, and newborn vaccination programs.
- Collaborate with medical doctors to identify and manage patients requiring specialized medical attention.
- Ensure all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained according to protocols.
- Monitor cleaning and minor maintenance tasks within the maternity department, ensuring compliance with established standards.
- Report any malfunctioning medical equipment promptly to the biomedical services team.
- Manage pharmacy-related responsibilities including stock control and consumption monitoring within the department.
- Maintain medical equipment to ensure it is in proper working condition at all times.

Required Qualifications

- Proven experience in supervising and managing maternity or related healthcare teams.
- Strong knowledge of clinical maternity services including antenatal, delivery, postnatal care, family planning, and newborn care.
- Familiarity with medical device usage, maintenance protocols, and biomedical reporting procedures.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with medical doctors and other healthcare professionals.
- Competence in managing pharmacy stock and consumption within a clinical setting.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
