MTL is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the companys financial records, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable management, reconciliation, and tax compliance. This role requires a thorough understanding of accounting principles and experience in shipping and logistics industries, as well as proficiency with Excel and bookkeeping software. The Accountant will also be responsible for managing sales tax filing and ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations.
The Accountant will lead a team of three professionals, providing guidance and oversight to ensure efficient and accurate financial operations. This role demands strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage and optimize accounting processes using ERP software such as SAP or Oracle Financials. The ideal candidate has at least 10 years of relevant experience and is capable of managing complex financial activities in a fast-paced environment while adhering to statutory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full cycle of accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure timely processing and accurate record keeping.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports that accurately reflect the companys financial position.
- Conduct account reconciliations to verify balances and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including the preparation and filing of sales tax returns.
- Oversee tax preparation activities to guarantee timely and accurate tax submissions in accordance with applicable laws.
- Utilize ERP software such as SAP or Oracle Financials to streamline accounting processes and maintain up-to-date financial records.
- Collaborate with other departments, including shipping and logistics, to ensure financial alignment and accurate reporting related to those operations.
- Lead and manage a team of three accounting professionals, providing mentorship, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance financial controls and improve overall accounting efficiency.
- Maintain accurate bookkeeping records using Excel and accounting software, ensuring data integrity.
- Support audit activities by preparing necessary documentation and responding to audit inquiries.
- Monitor and analyze financial transactions to identify trends and recommend improvements.
- Coordinate with external tax consultants and regulatory bodies as needed to ensure compliance and support financial initiatives.
