Purpose:
- A Librarian oversees collecting, organizing, and issuing library resources such as books, films, and audio files.
Job Description:
- Their duties include issuing resources, cataloguing books, and conducting regular audits
- Administer libraries and perform related library services
- Taking complete responsibility in selecting, developing, cataloguing, and classifying library resources
- Answering readers' enquiries and make necessary arrangement to resolve issues
- Using library systems and specialist computer applications
- Liaising with departmental academic staff, external organisations, and suppliers
- Ensuring that library services meet the needs of groups of users (e.g., student, teaching and non-teaching staff etc)
- Assisting readers to use computer equipment, conduct literature searches etc
- Promoting the library's resources to users
- Creating a study environment that is targeted towards active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices.
- Providing all day access to digital information resources for the entire learning community
- Remaining current and updated on professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research, pertinent to school library programs
- Keeping and file historical records and documents relating to the existence of the library
- Protecting and keep the library’s information, books, and other materials
- Making necessary books and materials available to students and other people who have come for research and under supervision.
- Ensuring access to information for all students of varying abilities
- Joining teachers and other internal and external stakeholders to plan and implement meaningful experiences that will promote a love of reading and learning
- Cooperating and networking with other libraries, librarians, agencies and stakeholders to facilitate access to resources outside the school
- Any other task assigned by the management/supervisor.
