This role involves the accurate collection of blood and other specimens as per physician requests, ensuring proper handling and timely processing. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining all phlebotomy equipment and ensuring cleanliness and orderliness in the specimen collection area. Managing inventory and stock related to phlebotomy supplies, as well as the safe disposal of sharps, are critical components of this position. Additionally, the role requires coordination for the timely collection of blood samples from hospital wards and the generation and verification of Internal Requisition Slips (IRS). The candidate must adhere strictly to standard operating procedures (SOPs), including the rejection of samples that do not meet quality criteria.

Key Responsibilities

- Collect blood and other specimens accurately according to doctors’ requests.
- Maintain and ensure cleanliness of all phlebotomy equipment and specimen collection areas.
- Manage inventory and stock levels of phlebotomy supplies, ensuring availability at all times.
- Properly handle and dispose of sharps in compliance with safety protocols.
- Collect blood samples from various wards punctually.
- Generate Internal Requisition Slips (IRS) and confirm specimen collection.
- Reject samples based on criteria outlined in SOPs to maintain quality standards.
- Perform weekly stock maintenance to monitor supply levels.
- Conduct monthly maintenance of analyzers following established maintenance procedures.
- Communicate promptly with biomedical engineers and suppliers in case of any analyzer errors or malfunctions.
- Participate in periodic duties including monthly, quarterly, biannual, and annual checks and maintenance activities.

Required Qualifications

- Proven experience in phlebotomy or specimen collection within a clinical or hospital setting.
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures related to specimen collection and handling.
- Familiarity with biomedical equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Ability to manage inventory and maintain accurate records.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols, especially regarding sharps disposal.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with clinical staff and biomedical engineers.
