Phlebotomist - Part Time

Citizen Society – Kharian is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist / Lab Sampling Officer to join its Healthcare & Diagnostic Services team on a part-time basis. This role involves performing safe and efficient blood collection and specimen sampling for patients, ensuring clinical accuracy and compassionate patient care. Reporting to the Clinic Physician or Laboratory In-Charge, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting diagnostic processes while upholding strict infection control and ethical standards. The position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to serving the underserved communities of Kharian with professionalism and empathy.

Key Responsibilities

Specimen Collection & Patient Care:
- Perform veinpunctures, capillary punctures, and skin punctures on patients of all ages, ensuring minimal discomfort.
- Verify patient identities and cross-check laboratory test requisitions before sampling to avoid errors.
- Clearly explain procedures to patients, alleviate anxiety, and provide post-draw care instructions.
- Maintain patient privacy and adhere to high ethical standards throughout the process.

Infection Control & Safety Compliance:
- Follow biosafety and infection control protocols as per Citizen Society and healthcare regulations.
- Ensure the phlebotomy station and equipment are properly sterilized between patients.
- Dispose of biomedical waste, including needles and contaminated materials, according to medical waste management guidelines.
- Monitor and maintain safety supplies such as gloves, swabs, tourniquets, and collection tubes.

Data Entry, Labelling & Sample Logistics:
- Label all collection tubes immediately at the bedside with accurate patient details, barcodes, dates, and times.
- Enter patient test requests, specimen tracking numbers, and collection logs accurately into the database.
- Handle specimens according to test requirements, including refrigeration, light protection, or centrifuging if needed.
- Coordinate with laboratory and administrative staff to ensure timely packaging, storage, and dispatch of samples.

Administrative & Team Support:
- Monitor inventory levels of phlebotomy consumables and coordinate procurement to avoid shortages.
- Collaborate with clinic physicians, dispensers, and administrative personnel to facilitate smooth patient flow and clinic operations.
- Assist in compiling diagnostic and operational reports for management review as required.

Required Qualifications

- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT), Phlebotomy Certification, or an equivalent clinical nursing diploma from a recognized institution.
- 1–2 years of practical experience as a phlebotomist in hospitals, diagnostic labs, clinics, or community health settings. Experience with NGOs or community welfare organizations is advantageous.
- Demonstrated manual dexterity and proficiency in drawing blood from diverse patient groups, including pediatric and geriatric patients.
- Basic computer literacy for accurate data entry and record-keeping.
