Job Description
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
- Organize, lead, and promote interest in the Visual Arts, including incorporation of Art History into lessons.
- Guide students in creative solutions following the Visual Art
- curriculum
- Attend all Visual Arts Workshop training sessions, participate, and take notes
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
- Ascertain and interpret group interests, evaluate equipment and facilities, and adapt activities to meet the student’s needs.
- Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities
- Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities, and demonstrate use of art materials, tools, and equipment, including cleanup.
- Help students observe, discuss, and write about their art
- Help plan and set-up all aspects of art shows (as applicable)
- Contribute communications and content for website for the arts
- Assist with plans for student trips to Museums
- Greet new arrivals to activities, introducing them to other
- students, explaining rules, and encouraging participation.
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Progressive development of student skills leading to a final project
- Promote positive character development in all youth
- Most New York Edge Specialists are expected to provide homework support during Academic hour.
Required skills:
- Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the Photography and Digital Media
- Must have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in the Visual Arts
- Must have knowledge of Photography and Digital Media techniques, terminology, and vocabulary
- Must be responsible, reliable and punctual!
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
