Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI) seeks an experienced Agriculture/Livelihood Specialist to lead efforts in enhancing smallholder agriculture productivity, improving food security, and advancing livelihood development. The successful candidate will manage a team of 20 persons to implement and oversee projects focused on farm economics and sustainable income generation. This role demands expertise in agricultural extension, supply chain management, and the use of advanced tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and QGIS to support spatial data analysis and demand planning.
The Agriculture/Livelihood Specialist will play a critical role in designing and executing strategies that optimize farm inputs management, forecasts, and demand planning to ensure effective resource allocation. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience and a deep understanding of smallholder agricultural systems. This position combines technical proficiency with leadership capabilities to drive impactful poverty eradication programs through scientific and practical approaches in agriculture and livelihood sectors.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of 20 specialists to execute agricultural and livelihood development projects aligned with the organization's poverty eradication goals.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve smallholder agriculture productivity, income generation, and food security.
- Oversee farm inputs management, including forecasting demand and planning resource allocation to support optimal agricultural operations.
- Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and QGIS for spatial data analysis to enhance project planning and monitoring.
- Manage agricultural supply chain systems using relevant software such as SAP Supply Chain Management to streamline procurement, distribution, and inventory control.
- Coordinate livelihood development initiatives by assessing community needs and designing sustainable income-generation activities.
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of farm economics to guide intervention programs and enhance economic outcomes for smallholder farmers.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and partner organizations to foster integrated agricultural development.
- Monitor project progress and prepare detailed reports on key indicators related to income, food security, and agricultural productivity.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements in all program activities.
- Provide technical guidance and capacity building to team members and partner organizations to strengthen agricultural extension services.
- Identify and incorporate innovative practices and tools to improve agricultural input efficiency and supply chain performance.

Poverty is the root cause of every problem in the society, has no doubts worse affects on human life. Traditional gender roles in Pakistan especially in NWFP, which remains indulged in tribal culture, define the woman’s place as in the home and not in the workplace, and define the man as the breadwinner. Consequently, the society invests far less in women than men. Women in NWFP suffer more from poverty of opportunities throughout their lives as compared to other provinces. Economic vulnerability is a key factor in the rise of poverty in Pakistan; vulnerability also arises from social powerlessness, political instability, and ill-functioning institutions. Corruption and political instabilities such as various separatist movements in Baluchistan and Waziristan resulted in reduction of business confidence, deterioration of economic growth, reduced public expenditure, poor delivery of public services, and undermining of the rule of law. The root causes of current unrest in whole country especially FATA and FRS are linked with the absence of the opportunities for youth in all sections of life in general and particular in livelihoods. Active participation of the youth in decision making and development of the area is neglected and never given a chance to decide their fate. This made youth of the area frustrated and restless and compelled them to take part in the unhealthy activities. Poverty and the lack of modern curriculum have proved destabilizing factors for Pakistani society as these causes our youth to be exploited by religious organizations banned by the government to run schools and produce militant literature. Eradication of poverty cannot be brought about by charity, but needs first and foremost empowering the poor, focusing on women, and tapping their tremendous potential.
