The Community Engagement & Training Manager at Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI) plays a pivotal role in mobilizing communities and building their capacity to actively participate in project activities. This leadership position involves managing a team of 40 personnel to ensure comprehensive community involvement, specifically targeting women, youth, and vulnerable groups. The manager develops and implements inclusive training programs focused on rainwater harvesting, waste management, first aid, and disaster preparedness. The role requires a strategic approach to community engagement, ensuring knowledge transfer and sustainable practices that extend beyond project timelines. This position demands a seasoned professional with at least 10 years of experience in community engagement, training, or capacity building, preferably within civil society organizations or non-governmental organizations. The ideal candidate must possess outstanding facilitation and interpersonal skills, proficiency in multiple languages including Urdu, Pashto, and English, and the ability to manage diverse stakeholders effectively across flood-affected regions such as KP. Strong organizational capabilities and expertise in adult learning principles underpin the successful delivery of the projects ambitious goals, fostering empowered communities ready to take ownership of their development.
Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate all community mobilization and capacity building activities aligned with project goals.
  • Develop, design, and deliver comprehensive training programs on rainwater harvesting, waste management, first aid, and disaster preparedness tailored for diverse groups including women, youth, and vulnerable populations.
  • Manage, mentor, and supervise a team of 40 community engagement and training staff to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of project activities.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, including local communities, government bodies, and partner organizations to foster strong partnerships and promote active participation.
  • Conduct thorough stakeholder analysis to identify needs, challenges, and opportunities for improved community engagement and training outcomes.
  • Implement communication strategies and plans that enhance community awareness, knowledge retention, and behavioral change.
  • Apply adult learning principles and participatory methodologies to ensure training sessions are interactive, inclusive, and impactful.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and community engagement efforts, preparing detailed reports and documentation.
  • Promote gender equity and the empowerment of youth and vulnerable groups through targeted engagement initiatives.
  • Ensure continuous improvement by integrating feedback from training participants and stakeholders into program design and delivery.
  • Oversee logistical arrangements for field activities, including organizing travel, materials, and resource allocation to project sites.
  • Maintain proficiency in MS Office tools to support reporting, data analysis, and presentation of project progress and results.
  • Support the identification of community risks related to disasters and environmental challenges, contributing to disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation efforts.

Poverty is the root cause of every problem in the society, has no doubts worse affects on human life. Traditional gender roles in Pakistan especially in NWFP, which remains indulged in tribal culture, define the woman’s place as in the home and not in the workplace, and define the man as the breadwinner. Consequently, the society invests far less in women than men. Women in NWFP suffer more from poverty of opportunities throughout their lives as compared to other provinces. Economic vulnerability is a key factor in the rise of poverty in Pakistan; vulnerability also arises from social powerlessness, political instability, and ill-functioning institutions. Corruption and political instabilities such as various separatist movements in Baluchistan and Waziristan resulted in reduction of business confidence, deterioration of economic growth, reduced public expenditure, poor delivery of public services, and undermining of the rule of law. The root causes of current unrest in whole country especially FATA and FRS are linked with the absence of the opportunities for youth in all sections of life in general and particular in livelihoods. Active participation of the youth in decision making and development of the area is neglected and never given a chance to decide their fate. This made youth of the area frustrated and restless and compelled them to take part in the unhealthy activities. Poverty and the lack of modern curriculum have proved destabilizing factors for Pakistani society as these causes our youth to be exploited by religious organizations banned by the government to run schools and produce militant literature. Eradication of poverty cannot be brought about by charity, but needs first and foremost empowering the poor, focusing on women, and tapping their tremendous potential.
