Principal Cloud Engineer

Based in Karachi, Pakistan, this role seeks a Principal Advanced Services Engineer / Technical Lead with over six years of experience. The position is a one-year onsite contract focused on leading complex technical projects involving Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Oracle Kubernetes Engine (OKE), and DevOps practices. The successful candidate will design and implement enterprise-grade cloud and middleware solutions, enhance platform reliability, and drive cloud modernization efforts. This hands-on role demands strong architecture, troubleshooting, automation skills, and the ability to engage effectively with senior technical stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the technical delivery of cloud modernization, middleware transformation, Kubernetes adoption, platform migration, and DevOps enablement projects.
- Design, implement, and maintain Oracle WebLogic Server environments, including clustering, performance tuning, security, patching, upgrades, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- Architect and manage Kubernetes platforms using Oracle Kubernetes Engine (OKE), focusing on networking, security, scalability, observability, resilience, and operational readiness.
- Develop and implement DevOps practices such as CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, infrastructure-as-code, automated testing, and release management.
- Manage Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services including IAM, networking, load balancers, compute, storage, monitoring, logging, and cloud security.
- Conduct root-cause analysis of critical production issues and implement long-term corrective and preventive solutions.
- Create automation scripts and tools using Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages to improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with architects, project managers, engineering teams, and stakeholders to define technical solutions, manage risks, and ensure successful project delivery.
- Lead technical workshops, architecture reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and provide guidance to engineering teams.
- Develop reusable architectures, operational runbooks, automation tools, and establish technical best practices.
- Ensure platform security, performance, reliability, and compliance with enterprise standards.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in cloud engineering, middleware administration, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or enterprise platform delivery.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Oracle WebLogic Server, including production support, clustering, troubleshooting, performance tuning, security, and upgrades.
- Practical experience with Kubernetes, preferably Oracle Kubernetes Engine (OKE).
- Solid knowledge of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) services such as IAM, networking, compute, storage, load balancing, monitoring, and security.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker/containerization, Helm, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
- Proficient Linux administration and scripting skills using Bash, Python, or similar languages.
- Understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, system resilience, monitoring, and production operations.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and collaborate effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

- Certifications in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Kubernetes, WebLogic, or DevOps.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion Middleware, SOA Suite, Java platforms, or enterprise application modernization.
- Proven track record delivering complex technical projects for international customers.
- Familiarity with enterprise security standards, cloud governance, and reusable engineering practices.
- Competitive monthly compensation ranging from PKR 400,000 to PKR 500,000.
- Work location is onsite in Karachi.
