Principal Software Engineer - Backend

Key Responsibilities

- Quickly develop a deep understanding of the Dubizzle codebase and technology stack within the first few weeks.
- Lead planning sessions for new product features, including detailed release roll-out and roll-back strategies.
- Stay current with industry trends and integrate relevant advancements into your work.
- Write unit tests that adhere to established standards to ensure code quality.
- Produce and maintain high-quality, clean code following Dubizzle’s programming practices.
- Take an active role in addressing post-release maintenance and bug fixes.
- Design elegant and efficient solutions for complex technical challenges.
- Enhance the reliability and performance of existing codebases, platforms, and core systems.
- Influence the technical vision and direction within your area of responsibility.
- Mentor peers in a collaborative programming environment, offering guidance on tasks of varying complexity.
- Conduct thorough code reviews for major pull requests, establish programming standards, and provide constructive feedback.
- Design and deliver multiple RESTful APIs, with experience in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
- Evaluate and push back on incomplete or unclear requirements to ensure quality outcomes.
- Manage the full software development lifecycle from planning to deployment.
- Lead product planning meetings and architect scalable solutions within your stream.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 8 years of professional back-end software engineering experience, with a strong preference for Python.
- Proven experience working with cloud-hosted infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS.
- Familiarity with containerization tools such as Kubernetes and Docker is highly desirable.
- Experience developing high-traffic, large-scale web applications.
- Solid understanding of web infrastructure, distributed systems, SOA, performance analysis, and search infrastructure.
- Firsthand experience in challenging “death march” projects and knowledge of pitfalls to avoid.
- Expertise in design patterns, including asynchronous programming, queuing, logging, security, and data persistence.
- Mastery of caching strategies and layers, including memcached.
- Strong grasp of build process management and continuous integration workflows.
- Comprehensive knowledge of testing methodologies, including unit, component, and integration tests.
