Principal Software Engineer - Backend

Key Responsibilities

- Quickly gain a deep understanding of the Dubizzle codebase and technology stack within the first few weeks.
- Lead planning sessions for new product features and develop detailed roll-out and roll-back strategies for releases.
- Stay updated on industry trends and incorporate relevant advancements into your daily work.
- Create unit tests aligned with established standards to ensure code quality.
- Write and maintain high-quality, clean code following Dubizzle’s programming practices.
- Actively participate in post-release maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Develop elegant, scalable solutions for complex technical challenges.
- Drive improvements in reliability and efficiency across existing codebases, platforms, and core systems.
- Influence the technical vision and direction within your area of expertise.
- Mentor team members in a peer-programming environment, providing guidance on tasks of varying complexity.
- Review major code contributions, define programming standards, and offer constructive feedback.
- Design and deliver multiple RESTful APIs, with experience in Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).
- Confidently challenge incomplete requirements and advocate for clarity.
- Manage the entire software development lifecycle from concept to deployment.
- Lead product planning meetings and architect solutions within your technical stream.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 8 years of professional back-end software engineering experience, with a strong preference for Python.
- Experience working with cloud-hosted infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and Docker is highly desirable.
- Proven experience building and maintaining high-traffic, large-scale web products.
- Solid understanding of web infrastructure, distributed systems, SOA, performance analysis, and search infrastructure.
- Experience surviving at least one “death march” project, with insights into what pitfalls to avoid.
- Deep knowledge of design patterns including asynchronous programming, queuing, logging, security, and data persistence.
- Expertise in caching strategies and layers, including memcached.
- Strong grasp of build process management and continuous integration practices.
- Mastery of testing methodologies such as unit, component, and integration tests.
