We are seeking an experienced Process Safety / Technical Safety Engineer to lead safety engineering activities throughout the basic and detailed design phases of major projects. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring process safety requirements are integrated into all relevant engineering deliverables, while coordinating closely with multidisciplinary teams. This position offers the opportunity to work on high-profile projects within the Oil & Gas, Refinery, Petrochemical, and EPC/EPCC sectors, contributing to the safe and compliant execution of complex engineering designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Process Safety and Technical Safety engineering activities during both basic and detailed design stages.
- Conduct and facilitate HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA, and risk assessment studies to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Develop and review Fire & Gas detection philosophies, Cause & Effect matrices, hazardous area classifications, and overall safety philosophies.
- Perform or review firewater demand calculations, fire protection systems, dispersion modeling, radiation analysis, and consequence modeling studies.
- Review and assess relief systems, flare networks, depressurization strategies, and emergency shutdown requirements.
- Develop and review safety layouts including escape routes, muster points, and safety equipment placement.
- Ensure that process safety requirements are incorporated into Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), layouts, and equipment designs.
- Review vendor documentation and resolve technical queries related to process safety.
- Collaborate effectively with Process, Piping, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Electrical, Civil, and HSE teams to ensure integrated safety solutions.
- Support construction, commissioning, start-up, and close-out phases by implementing safety study recommendations.
- Ensure all activities comply with project specifications and relevant international codes and standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 10 to 15 years of hands-on experience in Process Safety or Technical Safety engineering.
- Proven expertise in Oil & Gas, Refinery, Petrochemical industries, and EPC/EPCC project environments.
- Strong working knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies such as HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, LOPA, Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), and consequence analysis.
- Familiarity with industry-standard software tools like PHAST, PHA-Pro, BowTieXP, or their equivalents is preferred.
- Solid understanding of international safety codes and standards including API, NFPA, IEC, ISO, and others.
- Demonstrated experience leading process safety activities on large-scale projects is highly desirable.
