Punjabi Language Expert (Remote)

In this hourly, remote contractor position, you will serve as a Punjabi Language Specialist (Subject Matter Expert) responsible for reviewing AI-generated Punjabi content and creating high-quality reference materials. Your role involves evaluating language quality and reasoning step-by-step while providing precise written feedback. You will assess outputs for accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, cultural appropriateness, and adherence to prompts. Additionally, you will identify errors related to meaning, mistranslation, register (formal vs. informal), ambiguity, and logical consistency. Fact-checking claims when necessary, you will also produce high-quality rewrites and model answers that exemplify best practices in Punjabi writing. Furthermore, you will rate and compare multiple AI-generated responses based on correctness and overall quality. This position is with SME Careers, a subsidiary of SuperAnnotate, specializing in AI data services and training data for leading AI companies and foundation-model labs. Your expertise will directly contribute to enhancing the naturalness, reliability, cultural accuracy, and clarity of Punjabi language outputs in premier AI models.

Key Responsibilities
- Review and quality-check existing translations of English science benchmark questions (ARC) into Punjabi.
- Compare the original translation and AI-proposed corrections against the English source, focusing strictly on accuracy and faithfulness rather than stylistic improvements.
- Review only the question and answer choices, selecting the appropriate outcome: accept the original, accept the AI correction, edit the final translation, or escalate as needed.
- Provide brief review comments to justify decisions.
- Ensure preservation of the source’s meaning, difficulty level, answer structure, scientific terminology, and protected elements.
- Follow core and language-specific guidelines meticulously to maintain consistency and quality.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Linguistics, Punjabi/English Literature, Communications, Journalism, Translation, or related fields, or equivalent professional experience.
- Native or near-native proficiency in Punjabi, including reading and writing skills.
- Strong professional proficiency in English (minimum C1 level) to accurately follow guidelines and provide detailed feedback.
- At least three years of professional experience in writing, editing, localization, translation, content quality assurance, journalism, education, or other language-focused roles.
- Deep understanding of Punjabi grammar, spelling conventions, punctuation, and style, with the ability to explain errors and suggest corrections clearly.
- Comfortable working with Gurmukhi (India) and/or Shahmukhi (Pakistan) scripts; candidates should specify which script(s) they can read and write.
- Ability to handle multiple registers (formal and informal), dialectal variations, and audience adaptations across India, Pakistan, and the diaspora.
- High attention to detail for detecting subtle shifts in meaning, awkward literal translations, hallucinated claims, or culturally inappropriate phrasing.
- Reliable, self-directed, and capable of delivering consistent quality in a remote, hourly contractor workflow across different time zones.
