Regional Facilities Engineer

CBRE Global Workplace Solutions is seeking a highly experienced Regional Facilities Engineer to provide technical leadership and operational oversight for critical facilities, technology rooms, and mission-critical infrastructure across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This role serves as the primary engineering authority for the MENA portfolio, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of engineering systems while supporting client business continuity. The Regional Facilities Engineer will act as the key technical liaison between clients, operations, project teams, and service partners, driving engineering excellence, risk mitigation, operational resilience, and continuous improvement throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities

Regional Technical Leadership: Lead technical governance for mission-critical facilities and infrastructure across MENA. Ensure engineering operations adhere to client standards, CBRE procedures, and industry best practices. Provide guidance and operational support to site engineering teams, promoting consistency in maintenance and engineering standards. Serve as the regional escalation point for complex technical issues and critical incidents.

Critical Facilities Operations: Oversee the performance and reliability of data centers, technology rooms, command centers, and other business-critical facilities. Conduct technical reviews to assess infrastructure resilience and maintenance effectiveness. Support site teams during abnormal conditions, system failures, and emergencies. Analyze equipment performance trends and recommend improvements to meet uptime and availability goals.

Change Management & Risk Mitigation: Manage regional change control processes for critical systems maintenance and modifications. Review and approve complex engineering changes impacting business operations. Ensure thorough risk assessments and technical reviews are completed for all planned works. Act as the final technical approver for high-risk changes in mission-critical environments, enforcing compliance with client change control procedures and safe work systems.

Incident Management & Outage Response: Lead technical investigations into critical incidents and infrastructure outages. Provide 24/7 escalation support during major engineering events. Coordinate communication among site teams, management, and clients. Conduct root cause analyses, develop corrective action plans, and monitor implementation of preventive measures. Travel to sites as necessary to support incident investigations and business recovery efforts.

Technical Governance & Compliance: Ensure compliance with local regulations, statutory requirements, and client engineering standards across MENA countries. Conduct technical audits and risk reviews, maintaining and updating engineering policies, procedures, and protocols. Support internal and external audits and ensure timely closure of findings. Monitor risks related to aging infrastructure and operational vulnerabilities while keeping documentation accurate and current.

Strategy, Capacity Planning & Projects: Assist in developing regional engineering and infrastructure strategies. Review capacity management plans for power, cooling, space, and resiliency. Identify infrastructure constraints and future risks. Provide technical input on capital projects, upgrades, expansions, and lifecycle replacements. Advise during project design, commissioning, and handover to ensure alignment with business growth plans.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management: Manage relationships with specialist engineering contractors and service providers. Review vendor performance and contractual compliance. Collaborate closely with client representatives, project teams, operations management, and sustainability teams. Promote best practice sharing and support regional training and competency development initiatives.

Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities: Champion a strong safety culture across all facilities. Ensure compliance with CBRE and client Health & Safety requirements. Lead risk assessments for critical engineering activities and verify implementation of safe work systems, permit-to-work processes, and isolation procedures. Support sustainability and energy management initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related discipline. Professional Engineering qualification or equivalent technical certification. A minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in mission-critical facilities or data center operations. Strong knowledge of critical facility infrastructure and operational risk management.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

Certifications such as CDCP, CDCS, ATD, or Uptime Institute credentials are highly desirable. Proven leadership experience within large corporate, financial services, technology, or mission-critical environments. Demonstrated expertise in incident response, outage investigations, root cause analysis, engineering design reviews, commissioning, and infrastructure upgrades.

Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of UPS systems, HV/LV electrical distribution, generators and fuel systems, automatic transfer switches (ATS), building management systems (BMS), precision cooling, chillers and HVAC, fire detection and suppression, capacity planning, and resiliency design.
