The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), is seeking a consultant or specialized firm to develop and implement a structured, gender-responsive nutrition literacy Training of Trainers (ToT) package for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Economic Transformation Project (KP-RETP). This role focuses on strengthening nutrition mainstreaming within rural economic development initiatives by building the capacity of project staff and partners to deliver practical nutrition education, with particular emphasis on women’s roles in household dietary decision-making. The assignment involves reviewing existing nutrition materials, upgrading training modules with context-specific content, delivering ToT sessions, and supporting institutionalization of the curriculum within KP-RETP and potentially other vocational platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct an inception meeting with GAIN and KP-RETP to clarify expectations, review available materials, and finalize the work plan.
- Perform a comprehensive desk review of nutrition training resources from UNICEF, WFP, and other stakeholders, assessing their relevance to KP-RETP objectives.
- Evaluate existing nutrition literacy and ToT modules for technical accuracy, gender responsiveness, adult learning suitability, and contextual appropriateness.
- Identify content gaps and propose enhancements, including a dedicated component on women’s dietary decision-making and intra-household influences.
- Develop a practical, participatory nutrition literacy ToT curriculum with session plans, facilitation guides, participant materials, job aids, and assessment tools.
- Facilitate structured ToT sessions for selected KP-RETP staff, business mobilization partners, and community representatives using adult learning methodologies.
- Design and administer pre- and post-training assessments to measure knowledge gains and analyze results by participant category and gender.
- Incorporate feedback to finalize the training package and prepare guidance for future facilitators.
- Support the institutional handover of all training materials to GAIN and KP-RETP, with recommendations for integration into relevant capacity-building platforms such as TVETA.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Human Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Food and Nutrition Sciences, Behaviour Change, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or related fields.
- Minimum of seven years’ professional experience in nutrition education, capacity development, curriculum design, or related areas.
- Proven expertise in developing or upgrading nutrition training curricula, preferably using adult-learning and Training of Trainers approaches.
- Strong understanding of gender dynamics in nutrition, especially women’s influence on household food and dietary decisions.
- Experience designing and conducting pre- and post-training assessments with analysis of learning outcomes.
- Familiarity with government, development projects, UN agencies, or international development organizations is advantageous.
- Knowledge of nutrition-sensitive agriculture, food systems, rural development, or livelihoods programming is highly desirable.
- Awareness of the nutrition context in Pakistan, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and relevant government systems.
- Proficiency in English, Urdu, and Pashtu, with excellent communication skills.
- Experience producing facilitator guides, participant manuals, presentations, and training aids.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience working with IFAD-supported projects or similar rural economic development initiatives.
- Ability to develop training materials that are practical, culturally appropriate, and tailored for non-nutrition professionals.
- Capacity to design gender-responsive content grounded in the realities of rural households and women’s access to resources.
- Opportunity to contribute to a high-impact nutrition mainstreaming initiative with potential for institutionalization and scale-up.
- Collaboration with international organizations and exposure to multi-stakeholder partnerships.
