You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions. Flexibility is required for sprint reviews, deployments, and occasional on-call support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain production Ruby on Rails applications, focusing on backend functionality using Ruby, Rails, ActiveRecord, and MVC architecture.
- Design and maintain RESTful APIs and manage background jobs with Sidekiq or Resque.
- Integrate third-party APIs and collaborate with frontend engineers using React, Vue.js, or Stimulus.
- Design, optimize, and maintain PostgreSQL and/or MySQL databases, including migrations, indexing, caching, and query optimization to improve performance and scalability.
- Write and maintain comprehensive test suites including unit, integration, and system tests using frameworks such as RSpec, Minitest, and Capybara.
- Ensure code quality through tools like RuboCop or StandardRB and support CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
- Implement security best practices including authentication and authorization (Devise, OmniAuth), CSRF protection, input validation, and compliance with standards such as OWASP, GDPR, or HIPAA.
- Monitor application health and performance using tools like New Relic, Datadog, Honeybadger, and Rollbar.
- Troubleshoot production issues, deploy fixes efficiently, and maintain high availability and reliability.
- Participate actively in sprint planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives while providing technical recommendations and clear documentation for APIs, codebases, and system architecture.

- Opportunity to influence architecture and technical decisions while working on products used by real customers.
- Fully remote work environment with strong engineering ownership.
- Career growth potential into senior technical roles including Senior Ruby on Rails Developer, Technical Lead, Engineering Manager, or Solutions Architect.
Interview Process
The selection process includes an initial phone screen, recruiter interview, a technical assessment focusing on Rails API, models, endpoints, and testing, followed by an engineering team interview and offer with background verification. Qualified candidates will be invited to complete a one-way video interview via Spark Hire to showcase their experience with Ruby on Rails development, backend systems, APIs, testing, and performance optimization.
If you are passionate about building scalable backend applications, writing clean and maintainable code, and solving complex engineering challenges, we encourage you to apply and contribute to building reliable, high-performance Rails applications in a modern remote engineering environment.
