Freight Broker Job Description Template
We are looking for a service-minded Freight Broker to manage our operations between our customers (shippers) and freight carriers.
The Freight Broker will secure new accounts, handle the end to end booking process; from initial shipper query to sourcing and securing a suitable carrier all the way through transportation to confirmed delivery at the final destination, expedite the sharing of information and documentation between customers and carriers, and communicate with dispatchers and drivers to track the status of loads. You will negotiate contracts with carriers in a manner that optimizes profits.
To ensure success in this position you must maintain current knowledge of freight carrier services and be effective in attracting new customers and ensuring customer retention. Top applicants are customer-oriented, with the ability to multitask in a dynamic, fast-paced environment aswell as have existing relationships in the broker and shipper marketplace which can be leveraged.
Freight Broker Responsibilities:
- Generating leads and attracting new prospects, developing a sales pipeline of shippers
- Bringing carriers onto our network
- Identifying and selecting reputable and safe carriers for freight services.
- Providing shippers with shipping quotes.
- Booking orders with carriers.
- Assisting to prepare carriers for loads.
- Tracking status of loads.
- Collaborating with shippers, carriers and dispatchers to coordinate and manage scheduled collections and drop-offs.
- Keeping accurate records of relevant activities.
- Updating customers on status of shipments, and assisting with other inquiries.
- Maintaining current knowledge of market trends in transportation marketplace.
Requirements
- 8-10 years minimum experience in the freight broking marketplace
- Existing relationships with brokers, shippers and carriers
- Thorough understanding of the freight broking market, key players and the end to end process from initial shipper query, requirements gathering, carrier sourcing,coordination of carrier and shipper to pick up goods, carrier transport and final delivery of goods
- Freight broking for international shippers would be a major advantage as would experience with the freight forwarding space
