SAP Basis Consultant

The Senior Consultant, Tax Technology at Ryan is a pivotal role focused on delivering tax automation solutions to Fortune 1000 clients. This position requires expertise in analyzing detailed requirements, designing processes, and implementing tax automation software. The role also involves testing, training, and creating client documentation to ensure smooth integration and efficient operation of tax technology systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Foster a collaborative team environment and provide leadership to team members.
- Address client and internal inquiries related to SAP Basis support and administration.
- Assist in developing technical documentation and client deliverables.
- Support SAP technical projects including setup, testing, implementation, and post-go-live activities.
- Coordinate with infrastructure, application, and project teams to resolve issues and ensure system availability.
- Serve as the primary contact for SAP Basis incidents, maintaining timely communication with management and stakeholders.
- Monitor SAP systems for availability, health, performance, and background job issues.
- Analyze SAP environments to identify incompatibilities or weaknesses and recommend improvements.
- Perform SAP Basis administration tasks such as transport management, OSS Note implementation, kernel updates, support packages, client administration, and system refresh/copy activities.
- Support system patching, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades across SAP environments.
- Maintain comprehensive technical and operational documentation.
- Manage secure technical connectivity across SAP systems, including HTTP/HTTPS, certificates, authentication, and encryption configurations.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to support SAP applications on Linux and Windows servers.
- Support related SAP technical systems including SAP ECC, S/4HANA, SAP DRC, SAP BTP, Solution Manager, and ChaRM.
- Install and configure tax automation software solutions and assist with day-to-day project management.
- Create, execute, and document testing scenarios.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Accounting, or Accounting Information Systems.
- Minimum of 3 years’ hands-on SAP Basis administration experience in enterprise environments.
- Experience supporting SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA Basis environments.
- Proficiency in core Basis activities including system monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, background job management, transport management, OSS Note implementation, kernel and support package maintenance, client administration, and system refresh/copy support.
- Experience with incident management and production support.
- Strong understanding of SAP landscape architecture, technical dependencies, and security best practices such as certificates, authentication, encryption, and secure communication.
- Experience supporting SAP systems on Linux and Windows platforms.
- SAP ABAP development experience (1–2 years) covering ABAP OO, ABAP Dictionary, Reports, IDOCs, Enhancements, BADIs, BAPIs, RFCs, ALV Reports, OData Services, CDS Views, and RAP development.
- Familiarity with SAP BTP, SAP Cloud Platform technologies, XML/JSON, HTTP, REST web services, SQL, and SAP database structures.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across global teams.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

- Experience with SAP Private Cloud and exposure to SAP Public Cloud environments.
- Knowledge of SAP GTS, SAP DRC, SAP BTP, SAP Solution Manager, and SAP technical integration concepts such as IDocs.
- Experience with tax automation solutions like Vertex and ONESOURCE Determination.
- Involvement in SAP upgrades, migrations, or environment build projects.
- SAP certification in Basis, S/4HANA, or related cloud/infrastructure technologies.
- Advanced proficiency in SAP technologies including ABAP, RAP, BTP, CDS Views, OData Services, SAP configuration, integration and cloud technologies (REST APIs, XML/JSON, HTTP, SQL, XI/PI/PO), and development tools such as Eclipse, SAP GUI, UI5, HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS.
- General IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, and Project.
- Additional skills such as experience with Alteryx and workflow development are advantageous.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- This role requires approximately 50% independent travel.
