Veterinary Assistant

The Veterinary Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Projects Manager. Veterinary Assistant is the main focal person for, procurement, livestock management trainings, distribution of Goat etc.

Responsible for:

Identification and selection of potential areas for livestock farmers and breed of animals as per project objectives
Assistance in selection and procurement of animals as per weight, age and physical condition abreast with Islamic jurisprudence for sacrificial animals
Periodic weight determination and inspection
Vaccination and de-worming of animals as well as their treatment as per standards
Assistance in formation and training of Farmers’ Committee on livestock Management and development alongside creating awareness about diseases and preventive measure, better fodder as well as rearing practices to augment productivity
Ensuring regular payments to the selected livestock farmers in close coordination with Admin department for feeding/keeping of the procured animals
Ensuring timely feed/fodder for animals in coordination with Logistic department before slaughtering on Eid days.
Regular field visits for support and monitoring purposes
Regular reporting and feedback to line management regarding field level issues and updates
Identification and reporting of diseases in Qurbani animals and suggesting relevant treatment solutions
Provision of assistance and support in safe transportation of animals to slaughter house as per the approved plan
Identification and selection of butchers/slaughterers and formation of butchers’ committee for ensuring timely slaughtering on Eid days
Supervision of poultry birds procurement and distribution.
Supervision of poultry management trainings for the selected families
Formation of Livestock farmer’s cooperative for dairy food processing and value chain analysis
Development of business plan for farmers’ cooperative
Documentation and compilation of all relevant activities

Any other assignment given by the supervisor according to the project need

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIOR:

Educational requirements (minimum):

Degree/Diploma in Veterinary Medicine or related/Allied subject from HEC/Govt. accredited institute.

Experience requirements (minimum):

2 years' experience; especially in rural cattle management and practices, prophylactic measures including seasonal vaccinations against diseases and Treatment of sick animals and ensure Animal Health in the field. Also perform deworming against ecto and endo parasites.
Fluent in Sindh, English and native languages
Excellent inter-personal skills (Verbal and Non-Verbal Communications, Listening and Negotiation skills, problem solving and Decision Making, Assertiveness)
Ability to write clear and detailed reports of the visits within a given timescale
Ability to organise personal work-schedule on daily basis with flexibility for multi-tasking
Good Team player and motivated to work in remote and uncertain environment respecting standard operating procedures as devised and instructed.
