Senior AI Applied Software Engineer

As a Senior Android Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the AI-native engineering of our product throughout the software development lifecycle. You will collaborate closely with Principal Engineers and multidisciplinary squads to design, build, and maintain key capabilities within the Backbase Mobile Platform, delivering end-to-end solutions from concept to production. Your work will involve translating complex business requirements into technical designs and high-quality, maintainable software that performs efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
- Build, improve, and expand SDKs and libraries that transform Identity and Authentication for mobile banking applications.
- Write clean, maintainable code to develop scalable features that integrate seamlessly with other developers’ work.
- Develop features using native Android frameworks and cutting-edge technologies, collaborating with squad members and other mobile teams to adopt the latest development practices.
- Uphold and enhance engineering standards across the product, proactively leading initiatives to improve engineering excellence within the squad.
- Automate testing processes and work closely with QA teams to achieve a minimum of 80% unit test coverage.
- Embrace a strong engineering culture throughout the software development lifecycle, applying Agile methodologies to deliver complete, high-quality products.
- Implement continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices, ideally using tools such as Bitrise and GitHub Actions.
- Demonstrate an AI-native mindset by exploring, experimenting with, and applying AI tools and agentic frameworks (e.g., code generation, test automation, developer productivity tools). Promote AI adoption across engineering workflows and product capabilities.
- Contribute to product development activities including gathering feedback, writing documentation, and supporting product adoption by colleagues, customers, and partners.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in native Android development with strong proficiency in Kotlin.
- Proven experience in the FinTech, Banking, or Payments sectors.
- Expertise in modern Android architectural patterns such as MVVM, MVI, and Clean Architecture, along with development frameworks like Jetpack Compose and Android Architecture Components.
- Solid experience integrating with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and asynchronous programming techniques such as Coroutines and RxJava.
- Proficiency with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Strong understanding of mobile security best practices.
- Passion for leveraging AI/ML tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI, and IntelliJ AI to influence product and platform functionality.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Deep knowledge of mobile application security and data encryption standards.
- Familiarity with mobile analytics, A/B testing, and crash reporting tools such as Firebase and Crashlytics.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
- Track record of publishing Android applications on the Google Play Store.
- Experience delivering Android libraries with consistent, reliable APIs that support predictable upgrades and long-term maintainability.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
