Senior AI & Data Platform Engineer

Altura is seeking a hands-on Senior AI & Data Platform Engineer to enhance the data and conversational AI components of an established enterprise SaaS analytics platform. In this role, you will take full ownership of the BigQuery analytical layer, governed data APIs, and a production-ready AI analytics agent. You will collaborate closely with technical leadership and a fellow senior engineer to deliver scalable, secure, and efficient solutions.

Key Responsibilities
- Review and extend the existing BigQuery Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers to improve data quality and accessibility.
- Implement multi-tenant Row-Level Security and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) masking to ensure data privacy and compliance.
- Define governed semantic metrics and develop typed analytical APIs for consistent data consumption.
- Reconcile business Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) against current Power BI reporting to maintain alignment with business goals.
- Build and maintain an AI analytics agent using Vertex AI or an equivalent platform.
- Implement function calling, Pydantic/JSON Schema validation, and structured JSON outputs to support robust AI interactions.
- Manage AI session state with Redis while ensuring secure tenant isolation in a multi-tenant environment.
- Integrate forecasting services and analytical APIs to enhance predictive capabilities.
- Develop automated evaluations, integration tests, and comprehensive technical documentation.
- Ensure that the large language model (LLM) cannot generate or execute SQL queries directly, maintaining security and control.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Python development, backend engineering, and data engineering.
- Strong expertise in BigQuery, SQL, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services.
- Proven track record of deploying large language model (LLM) agents in production environments.
- Experience with function calling, Redis, API development, and Pydantic for data validation.
- Familiarity with semantic layers, dimensional modeling, and tools such as dbt or Dataform.
- Solid understanding of SaaS security principles, access controls, and data governance frameworks.
- Professional proficiency in English, with strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and deliver on agreed technical milestones within deadlines.

Contract Terms
This is a 12-week contract engagement with a total compensation of USD 3,000. Payments will be made in four installments based on milestone acceptance (20% / 30% / 30% / 20%). The role offers a fully remote and flexible schedule, with coordination meetings agreed upon in advance. Deliverables include complete source code, automated tests, documentation, and a formal handover. The contract scope and technical acceptance criteria will be finalized prior to project commencement.
