The Data Science team plays a crucial role in unlocking competitive advantages by developing advanced AI models that improve user experience, support decision-making, and boost operational efficiency. As a senior leader within this team, you will work alongside top regional data science experts to deploy state-of-the-art machine learning, optimization, deep learning, and reinforcement learning models on Careem’s proprietary AI platform. Your work will deliver real-time solutions that address everyday challenges faced by users across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a strategic vision to revolutionize customer acquisition and engagement through data-driven insights.
- Perform exploratory data analyses to understand user behavior and ecosystem dynamics, identifying new levers to enhance key performance metrics and build behavioral models for product improvement.
- Influence the design and implementation of machine learning models and instrumentation to optimize product experiences and discover new business opportunities.
- Provide product leadership by delivering data-backed recommendations that clearly communicate business performance, explain metric fluctuations, and guide product and business decisions.
- Build and deploy scalable machine learning algorithms for production environments handling large datasets.
- Lead exploratory data projects to uncover insights and identify untapped growth and optimization opportunities.
- Tackle complex analytical challenges using big data to enhance Careem’s products and services.
- Define, monitor, and report on key metrics for projects to ensure alignment with business goals.
- Design and analyze randomized controlled experiments, sharing results and insights with cross-functional teams.
- Continuously explore new data processing technologies and uphold industry best practices to challenge and improve existing processes.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Extensive experience in data mining, predictive modeling, time series analysis, machine learning, Big Data techniques, and data transformation for both structured and unstructured data.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and proficiency in programming languages and tools including Python, SQL, Spark, and Hive.
- Deep understanding of marketplace dynamics, especially in ride-hailing and delivery service sectors.
- Hands-on experience with A/B testing, classical machine learning, deep learning, recommendation systems, learning to rank, uplift modeling, and matching algorithms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Proven experience with database technologies such as Hadoop, BigQuery, Amazon EMR, Hive, Oracle, SAP, DB2, Teradata, MS SQL Server, and MySQL.
- Familiarity with business intelligence and visualization tools like Tableau, MicroStrategy, ChartIO, or Qlik, as well as geospatial data processing capabilities.
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies and practices.
