Senior AI Engineer

emrgen.ai is a cutting-edge AI-driven healthcare product currently live and serving real users. We are looking for experienced senior engineers to take full ownership of the emrgen.ai module. In the first few months, you will manage the codebase, cloud infrastructure, AI models, and prompts, completing a detailed handover process. You will work closely with the Head of Delivery and an engineering team based in Pakistan, contributing to a rapidly growing platform that integrates clinical documentation with billing and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Take full ownership of the emrgen.ai codebase, cloud environment, and AI components. Ensure a smooth handover with thorough documentation, secure access controls, and elimination of any single points of failure. Conduct a comprehensive audit of the current system, including architecture, security, data handling, and AI model behavior. Develop a detailed plan identifying what should be retained, fixed, or rebuilt.

Manage the entire AI-driven clinical documentation workflow—from clinician input to the finalized structured note ready for review and signature. Measure AI quality using real evaluation datasets, tracking accuracy, hallucinated content, and clinician edits. Implement guardrails to prevent the AI from adding clinical facts not present in source data, ensuring clinician approval before notes enter patient records.

Enforce strict patient data protection through access controls, audit logging, and clear policies governing data sharing with external AI providers. Integrate emrgen.ai with the broader iCareManager platform and state Medicaid billing requirements to convert documentation into billable services. Establish release processes, monitoring, and on-call support to proactively identify and resolve production issues.

Mentor engineers on the Pakistan team and participate in hiring to build a strong, collaborative engineering group.

Required Qualifications
Minimum of 8 years as a professional software engineer, including experience as a technical lead. At least 3 years delivering AI features in production environments—not just prototypes or demos. Direct experience building or significantly contributing to an EHR or EMR system for U.S. healthcare customers, preferably while based in Pakistan, with the ability to clearly describe your role and the system.

Hands-on expertise with large language models, including prompt engineering, retrieval techniques, evaluation, and managing cost and latency. Experience with speech-to-text technologies is a strong advantage. Proven ability to inherit and maintain complex systems developed by others, improving maintainability and reliability.

Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations, audit trails, and handling protected health information (PHI) within AI pipelines. Clear understanding of clinical documentation workflows and factors that build clinician trust. Strong written English skills suitable for customer-facing documentation and comfortable working overlapping U.S. business hours.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Experience with medical and Medicaid billing processes. Familiarity with healthcare data standards such as HL7 or FHIR. Experience supporting SOC 2 audits. Knowledge of machine learning operations, including model versioning and monitoring.
