Senior AI Engineer

emrgen.ai is an innovative, live AI-driven healthcare platform seeking experienced senior engineers to join our team. In this role, you will take full ownership of the codebase, infrastructure, AI models, and prompts, completing a thorough handover process. You will collaborate closely with our Head of Delivery and the engineering team based in Pakistan to ensure seamless operations and continuous improvement of the platform.

Key Responsibilities

- Take control of the emrgen.ai codebase, cloud environment, and AI components, completing the handover with comprehensive documentation, secure access, and eliminating any single points of failure.
- Conduct a detailed audit of the current system, including architecture, security, data handling, and AI model behavior, and develop a clear plan outlining what to retain, fix, or rebuild.
- Manage the end-to-end AI documentation workflow, from clinician input through to the structured note reviewed and signed by clinicians.
- Measure AI performance using real evaluation datasets, tracking accuracy, hallucinations, and clinician edits required on generated notes.
- Implement guardrails to prevent the AI from introducing clinical facts not present in the source data and ensure clinician approval before notes enter the medical record.
- Safeguard patient data by enforcing strict access controls, audit logging, and clear policies on data shared with external AI providers.
- Integrate emrgen.ai with the broader iCareManager platform and align documentation with state Medicaid billing requirements to convert documentation into billable services.
- Establish release processes, monitoring, and on-call support to proactively identify and resolve production issues before impacting customers.
- Mentor engineers on the Pakistan team and participate in recruiting new team members.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 8 years as a professional software engineer, including experience as a technical lead.
- At least 3 years of experience deploying AI features into production environments (not just demos).
- Direct experience working on an EHR or EMR system for U.S. healthcare clients while based in Pakistan, with the ability to describe your role and the system.
- Hands-on expertise with large language models, including prompt engineering, retrieval, evaluation, and managing cost and latency. Speech-to-text experience is a strong advantage.
- Proven ability to inherit and maintain systems developed by others, ensuring maintainability and scalability.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance, audit trails, and handling protected health information (PHI) within AI pipelines.
- Clear understanding of clinical documentation workflows and clinician trust factors.
- Strong written English skills suitable for customer-facing documentation and comfort working overlapping hours with U.S. time zones.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits

- Experience supporting SOC 2 audits.
- Knowledge of machine learning operations, including model versioning and monitoring.
