Senior Android Developer

We are seeking a Senior Mobile App Developer with extensive experience in Kotlin Multiplatform and native Android development. This full-time, long-term remote position involves taking ownership of our mobile application, which integrates real-world interactions using location and proximity technologies. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, solving complex technical challenges while leveraging AI coding tools and autonomous agents to enhance development efficiency. You will also mentor a junior developer and contribute to building effective AI-assisted workflows.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance our Android application using Kotlin and Kotlin Multiplatform.
- Design shared application logic and integrate it with platform-specific features.
- Implement and troubleshoot location and proximity functionalities involving GPS, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Ultra-Wideband (UWB), and related technologies.
- Address mobile-specific challenges such as permissions, background execution, battery optimization, connectivity, and device variability.
- Utilize AI coding assistants and autonomous coding agents extensively for feature implementation, defect investigation, code refactoring, and testing support.
- Establish and refine agentic development workflows, including task decomposition, project context management, automated checks, and review processes.
- Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, maintainability, security, and performance.
- Test critical functionality on physical devices to identify issues beyond automated testing.
- Mentor a junior team member through demonstrations, pair programming, and clear explanations.
- Document key technical decisions and share reusable knowledge within the team.

Required Qualifications
- Proven senior-level experience delivering and maintaining production Android applications using Kotlin.
- Strong expertise in Kotlin Multiplatform, including shared codebases, platform-specific integrations, and managing boundaries between them.
- Deep understanding of Android architecture components, Jetpack Compose, coroutines, Flow, application lifecycle, and state management.
- Excellent debugging skills with the ability to diagnose issues across application code, APIs, and device behavior.
- Substantial hands-on experience using AI coding tools to deliver functional software.
- Keen interest in agentic coding and the ability to develop effective workflows around coding agents.
- Ability to critically assess AI-generated solutions and justify implementation choices.
- Patience and skill in mentoring less experienced developers, especially in AI-assisted development.
- Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently in a remote team environment.
- Availability for a prompt start and commitment to a long-term, full-time role.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience with GPS positioning, location accuracy, sensor data, and proximity detection.
- Knowledge of BLE discovery, advertising, connections, and signal strength limitations.
- Familiarity with UWB ranging, distance measurement, direction estimation, and hardware compatibility.
- Understanding of NFC and other device-to-device interaction technologies.
- Experience building automated development and testing workflows that combine human oversight with coding agents.
