Senior Backend Engineer

Located in Islamabad, Pakistan, this full-time opportunity is with a bootstrapped GenAI platform specializing in large-scale image and video generation. Serving Fortune 500 clients with over $35 million in annual recurring revenue, the company handles high traffic volumes that demand low latency and robust infrastructure. The role calls for a backend engineer who approaches challenges from a systems perspective, taking full ownership of the architecture behind generation pipelines, inference orchestration, and infrastructure scalability. This is a hands-on architect position where you will actively design and write code, not just create high-level plans.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and maintain backend systems capable of handling high-throughput, asynchronous workloads, including generation queues, worker orchestration, and media processing.
- Architect solutions focused on scalability and reliability, making critical decisions regarding data flow, service boundaries, and failure management.
- Build and optimize asynchronous pipelines with features such as job queuing, retries, backpressure, and dead-letter handling to ensure millions of requests are processed smoothly.
- Enhance performance and reduce costs at the infrastructure level, recognizing that inference efficiency is a key product feature.
- Provide technical leadership by setting direction, conducting code reviews, and mentoring team members to elevate engineering standards.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of strong backend development experience with demonstrated ownership of production systems operating at scale.
- Proven expertise in system design, able to justify architectural decisions with clear tradeoffs rather than buzzwords.
- Hands-on experience working with asynchronous pipelines, message queues (such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS), and distributed worker systems.
- Comfortable operating in high-concurrency, high-throughput environments.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, low-process, bootstrapped startup environment.

Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
