Sportech is a pioneering company building the digital infrastructure for sports clubs, leagues, academies, and federations worldwide. Their platform empowers organizations to create branded fan engagement ecosystems that include memberships, livestream monetization, digital gifting, ticketing, prediction features, merchandise, and interactive experiences. All of this operates under a revenue-sharing model with no upfront costs for partners. They are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, scale, and maintain high-throughput, mission-critical distributed systems that serve millions of concurrent users. This role involves leading the architecture of core platform domains such as real-time event streaming, financial ledgers, sports data ingestion pipelines, and identity services.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect resilient, low-latency microservices in Go that can handle peak burst traffic during major live events.
- Build and optimize end-to-end data ingestion pipelines, WebSocket/SSE engines, and event streams to support real-time match processing, analytics, and instant state synchronization.
- Design double-entry wallet and ledger architectures, token economies, and payment pipelines ensuring zero-loss consistency, idempotency, and full auditability.
- Manage database modeling, partitioning strategies including sharding and range partitioning, query optimization, and connection lifecycle management in high-load PostgreSQL environments.
- Enforce enterprise-grade security standards across identity management (OAuth 2.0/OIDC), personally identifiable information (PII) protection, and compliance with PCI-DSS, SOC 2, and KYC regulations.
- Implement comprehensive distributed tracing, metrics, and alerting systems to maintain 99.99% availability under volatile and high-load conditions.
- Lead system design reviews, promote engineering best practices, and mentor intermediate engineers within backend squads.
Required Qualifications
- Over 5 years of production experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems that handle high queries per second (QPS) and millions of active users.
- Deep expertise in Go programming, including concurrency primitives such as goroutines, worker pools, channels, synchronization packages, memory management, profiling tools like pprof, and production-grade database drivers such as pgx/v5.
- Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL with experience in large-scale relational database management, including advanced indexing, locking mechanisms, window functions, JSONB optimization, range partitioning, and executing live migrations without downtime.
- Extensive experience with real-time and asynchronous communication patterns, including working with message brokers and event streaming platforms like Kafka, RabbitMQ, and Redis Streams, as well as real-time client protocols such as WebSocket, SSE, and gRPC.
- Strong foundation in security and authentication, including decentralized identity patterns, token lifecycle management, role-based access control (RBAC), and secure webhook architectures.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Preferred candidates will have experience engineering distributed double-entry ledgers, transactional wallets, or high-volume payment processing systems. Hands-on work with high-frequency sports data feeds and dynamic leaderboard calculation engines is highly valued. Additionally, experience in decoupling monolithic architectures into scalable, event-driven services is a plus.
Sportech offers flexible remote work options, competitive compensation packages, and opportunities for professional growth within an innovative and fast-paced environment.
