Senior Backend Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our remote team, working during U.S. business hours. In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping our core API and data infrastructure as we scale from thousands to millions of daily events. You will design and build reliable backend systems, collaborate closely with product teams, and make thoughtful technical decisions that balance scalability, performance, and business priorities.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and deploy resilient backend services that support high volumes of daily events.
- Build and maintain scalable APIs and data-layer infrastructure, primarily using PostgreSQL and background job systems.
- Implement pragmatic testing strategies to ensure code quality and system reliability.
- Establish and maintain observability tools to monitor backend service health, identifying and resolving issues related to reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Work closely with product teams to define project scope, evaluate technical tradeoffs, and align engineering efforts with business goals.
- Balance engineering excellence with practical delivery timelines to meet product requirements effectively.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 5 years of experience building and shipping backend systems in production environments.
- Proficiency in Python or Go programming languages.
- Strong SQL skills with hands-on experience working with PostgreSQL databases.
- Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining production APIs and backend services.
- Solid understanding of background job processing and asynchronous workflows.
- Practical approach to testing and ensuring software quality.
- Proven ability to build reliable and scalable systems that handle significant workloads.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and sound technical decision-making capabilities.
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience working alongside product and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working with high-volume event pipelines and systems processing large numbers of daily events.
- Familiarity with GDPR-compliant data handling and privacy-conscious system design.
- Background in scaling systems from thousands to millions of daily events is highly desirable.
