Senior Backend Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team onsite in Garden Town, Lahore. This full-time, permanent role focuses on building and maintaining reliable backend systems, APIs, and data services for a mobile health and connected-device platform. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Python and FastAPI, with hands-on experience managing deployments, production monitoring, and cloud operations primarily on Google Cloud Platform and Firebase, with additional support for AWS as needed. This role involves designing scalable backend services, owning deployment processes, investigating incidents, and continuously improving system reliability and security.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable backend APIs and services that support device integrations and internal tools.
- Create database schemas, data-processing workflows, background jobs, and ensure reliable asynchronous processing.
- Manage backend deployments, environment configurations, release cycles, and rollback readiness.
- Maintain and enhance Google Cloud Platform and Firebase services, including authentication, cloud functions, storage, and server-side integrations.
- Support AWS infrastructure and services for deployment, monitoring, and platform scaling when required.
- Implement structured logging, monitoring, alerting, and diagnostics to quickly identify and resolve API, device, firmware, and integration failures.
- Investigate production issues across services, databases, cloud infrastructure, mobile-device integrations, and network flows.
- Continuously improve backend security, privacy, performance, scalability, and data reliability.
- Collaborate closely with mobile, firmware, QA, product, and design teams to deliver reliable end-to-end features.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in backend engineering with production systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python and FastAPI for backend API and service development.
- Experience with Node.js is a plus; familiarity with both Python and Node.js is preferred.
- Solid experience designing and developing RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
- Experience with NoSQL databases, ideally Firebase Firestore or similar.
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform and Firebase services.
- Proven ability to deploy and operate production services on GCP or AWS.
- Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, environment configuration, and secrets management.
- Experience implementing application logging, monitoring, alerting, error tracking, and incident investigation.
- Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, API security, and data privacy best practices.

Preferred Qualifications and Additional Skills

- Experience in health, wellness, IoT, Bluetooth, wearable, or device-data products.
- Expertise designing FastAPI services with asynchronous processing, background jobs, validation, and API documentation.
- Familiarity with AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, RDS, CloudWatch, S3, and API Gateway.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
- Experience working with time-series data, analytics pipelines, or background data processing.
- Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry, Datadog, Grafana, New Relic, Mixpanel, or CleverTap.

Success in this role means delivering backend features with clear, reliable APIs and robust data handling. Production issues should be quickly identifiable through effective logging, metrics, and alerts. The team will be able to safely ship backend changes using repeatable CI/CD processes with rollback plans. Mobile and firmware teams will receive dependable backend support for device management, account handling, data sync, and diagnostics. The backend architecture will remain secure, maintainable, and scalable as the product and user base grow.
