We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer / Data Pipeline Architect for a hybrid role based in Stockholm, Sweden. This position involves leading the modernization of data pipelines with a strong focus on data security and technical architecture. The role requires overseeing the migration of existing pipelines to comply with enhanced requirements around encryption, data retention, and user data deletion, including handling historical and derived datasets. The assignment is initially for six months, with the possibility of extension, and requires travel as part of the hybrid working arrangement. Fluency in English is essential, and the start date is scheduled for November 9, 2026.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and lead the incremental migration of data pipelines, ensuring that existing outputs remain consistent throughout the process.
- Establish and maintain sustainable engineering practices, including testing frameworks, code review protocols, incident management, and release processes.
- Provide architectural leadership combined with hands-on development using technologies such as Airflow, Spark, dbt, BigQuery, and Python.
- Collaborate closely with and mentor a Data Engineer on the team to promote long-term ownership, reliability, and independent maintenance of the migrated pipelines.

Required Qualifications

- A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in data engineering, with a total experience range of 5 to 10 years.
- Proven hands-on expertise with Airflow, Spark, dbt, BigQuery, and Python.
- Demonstrated technical leadership in managing at least one full data pipeline migration project from inception to completion.
- Experience in refactoring production data pipelines while ensuring the outputs remain unchanged and reliable.
- Proven track record of establishing and implementing engineering processes related to testing, code reviews, and incident management.
- Strong mentoring skills with evidence of measurable outcomes in team development.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational background.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working with encryption at rest, data retention policies, or compliance related to data deletion, such as GDPR.
- Familiarity with envelope encryption and key management solutions, including GCP KMS, AEAD functions, or Tink.
- Knowledge of BigQuery’s column-level security, policy tags, and Data Catalog features.
- Experience using Config Connector (KCC) for managing Google Cloud Platform resources through Kubernetes.
- Exposure to event-driven architectures, particularly using Kafka.

This role offers the opportunity to work on critical data infrastructure projects within a dynamic environment, contributing to enhanced data security and pipeline reliability. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of data engineering practices while mentoring junior team members and driving technical excellence.
