The Senior Project Associate (GBV) position, based in Karachi, Sindh Province, Pakistan, plays a critical role within the Protection Unit of a leading inter-governmental organization dedicated to migration and humanitarian efforts. Reporting directly to the National GBV Officer, this role supports the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of gender-based violence (GBV) risk mitigation, prevention, and response services under the Canada Project. The incumbent will work closely with GBV caseworkers and partners to ensure quality service delivery, adherence to standards, and meaningful engagement with vulnerable populations, particularly women and girls. This position offers a monthly salary of PKR 442,652 and involves supervising a team of four direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Support planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of gender equality and GBV activities in Karachi in coordination with the Programme Officer (GBV), National GBV Officer, and Protection Field Coordinator.
- Monitor GBV case management services to ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and workplans; analyze challenges and recommend adjustments to improve implementation.
- Provide technical support, supervision, and mentorship to GBV caseworkers to enhance their capacity in delivering timely, quality case management and referrals.
- Act as a focal point for planning, logistics, and implementation of GBV activities, including organizing trainings, workshops, assessments, and field visits.
- Establish and maintain relationships with government stakeholders, community leaders, humanitarian partners, and service providers to strengthen survivor support and access to services.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor service delivery, adherence to SOPs, identify capacity-building needs, and address challenges through meetings and follow-ups.
- Contribute to capacity building for staff, implementing partners, and stakeholders through training sessions, technical guidance, and development of training content and IEC materials.
- Monitor gender and GBV trends, gaps, and needs in target locations, coordinating with relevant officers to address identified issues.
- Ensure accurate and timely use of reporting tools by caseworkers and submission of reports to relevant staff.
- Document good practices and lessons learned, support adaptation of workplans, and assist in developing SOPs and new GBV projects.
- Participate in GBV-related meetings and maintain coordination with local authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
- Support additional tasks within the Humanitarian, Resilience and Recovery Division (HRRD) and Protection Unit, including field visits, key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and awareness sessions.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma with 7 years of relevant experience; or a Bachelor’s degree or higher in development studies, political science, social sciences, gender studies, law, human rights, or related fields with 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience: Proven experience in general protection, child protection, and GBV, including direct beneficiary contact. Experience with protection and GBV information management is an asset.
- Strong understanding of the protection and GBV sector in Pakistan, including referral pathways and principles for safe referrals.
- Experience providing technical guidance and capacity building on protection, GBV, and child protection issues.
- Knowledge of data protection principles and ethical data handling.
- Advanced computer skills, including MS Word, PowerPoint, and proficiency in Excel.
- Familiarity with the Afghanistan crisis in Pakistan and related issues affecting Afghan migrants and host communities.
- Languages: Fluency in English and Urdu (oral and written) is required.
Preferred Qualifications and Competencies
- Working knowledge of Pashtu, Dari, or other local languages is desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of migration-related issues and UN/bilateral donor programming.
- Understanding of financial rules and regulations.
