PackageX develops a Physical Logistics Execution Platform designed for enterprise teams operating in manufacturing sites, distribution centers, warehouses, retail locations, and other logistics-intensive environments. The platform integrates Vision AI, workflow automation, mobile execution, and system integrations to digitize, execute, and verify physical operations at the point of work, providing trusted evidence of actual events. The core operating principle is simple: Execution, Verification, and Evidence.
The Senior QA Automation Engineer role is critical to ensuring the reliability of PackageX’s software, which is used directly on warehouse floors, mailrooms, and receiving docks. When the software fails, it impacts real-time operations immediately. This position is responsible for maintaining quality across mobile applications, web platforms, SDKs, and Vision AI workflows by building and owning automation frameworks that scale with the pace of releases. The role involves writing JavaScript/TypeScript automation for mobile, web, API, and SDK layers, integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines, and performing manual testing where automation is insufficient, such as handling scanner quirks, camera capture in challenging conditions, and intermittent network connectivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks for the React Native mobile app using WebdriverIO and Appium with Mocha, web platform automation with Playwright, and API/SDK testing using Vitest.
- Build and enhance Playwright-based web automation, including driving tests through MCP servers to improve test creation and maintenance speed.
- Manage failure triage, detect flaky tests, analyze coverage, and resolve issues to maintain reliable test suites.
- Develop and sustain SDK test coverage through integration harnesses, sample applications, contract tests, and cross-version regression suites.
- Integrate all automation suites into CI/CD pipelines to ensure regressions are caught on every pull request and build, with clear reporting via Allure, JUnit, and Testmo.
- Conduct exploratory and manual testing on real Android and iOS devices, including rugged handhelds and scanners used by customers.
- Test Vision AI features under real-world conditions such as poor lighting, damaged labels, angled shots, and low-end devices.
- Validate offline functionality, data synchronization, and recovery processes when connectivity is lost mid-workflow.
- Reproduce and isolate customer-reported issues, providing engineers with detailed reproduction steps, logs, and screenshots.
- Engage early in requirements and design discussions to identify gaps, untestable logic, and advocate for testability improvements like test IDs, mocks, seeded data, and environment parity.
- Provide evidence-based go/no-go recommendations for releases and track key quality metrics such as defect leakage, coverage, flaky-test rates, and escaped bugs.
- Manage test data, environments, and device labs to maintain healthy test suites and reasonable execution times.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years in QA engineering with a primary focus on test automation.
- Experience building or significantly extending automation frameworks, not just adding test cases.
- Deep knowledge of Playwright, including experience driving it through MCP servers.
- Proficiency in mobile automation using WebdriverIO and Appium for React Native or native apps.
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript coding skills trusted by engineering teams.
- Experience writing API, integration, or component tests with Vitest or Jest.
- Familiarity with integrating test suites into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Bitrise).
- Disciplined approach to manual and exploratory testing, including test planning and edge case analysis.
- Hands-on experience testing on physical Android and iOS devices across multiple OS versions and hardware tiers.
- Comfortable using API tools, logs, and basic SQL for debugging issues beyond the UI.
- Clear communication skills with engineers, product managers, and customer-facing teams.
- Ability to make and support go/no-go release decisions based on evidence.
- Proactive in creating structure and clarity in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience testing SDKs or developer-facing products.
- Familiarity with Allure reporting and test management tools such as Testmo or TestRail.
- Background in testing camera-driven features, barcode scanning, OCR, or ML/Vision AI outputs.
- Knowledge of performance and load testing tools like k6, JMeter, or Gatling.
- Industry experience in logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, warehousing, or other operations-heavy sectors.
