Senior Rust / Platform Engineer

Botmer International is seeking a senior software engineer to join their team focused on building and maintaining secure, reliable, and scalable financial infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with Rust and a strong background in payment systems, financial ledgers, or banking infrastructure. This role involves working on backend and platform systems where data consistency, transaction integrity, and performance are critical. The engineer will operate within a cloud-native environment, leveraging technologies such as PostgreSQL, OpenTofu, and Kubernetes to design and manage production-grade systems.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend and platform systems with a focus on reliability, security, and scalability.
- Ensure data consistency, transaction integrity, and high performance in financial applications.
- Design, deploy, and operate cloud-native production systems using Kubernetes and infrastructure as code tools like OpenTofu.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust APIs and backend services.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and take full ownership of systems from design through production.
- Implement best practices for distributed systems, concurrency, fault tolerance, and system reliability.
- Monitor production environments and ensure smooth operation of financial infrastructure.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend or platform engineering.
- Proven hands-on experience using Rust in production environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in building or maintaining payment systems, financial ledgers, or banking infrastructure.
- Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL, including database design, transaction management, and query optimization.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as OpenTofu or Terraform.
- Practical knowledge of deploying and managing workloads with Kubernetes.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts including concurrency, fault tolerance, and system reliability.
- Experience designing secure, scalable APIs and backend services.
- Deep understanding of data consistency, idempotency, and transaction integrity principles.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and production system monitoring tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to take ownership of complex systems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a technical team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with payment rails, transaction processing, reconciliation, or double-entry accounting systems.
- Background in building ledger systems or other applications requiring strict financial accuracy.
- Knowledge of financial regulations, auditability, and security compliance requirements.
- Experience with high-throughput, low-latency systems.
- Proven track record of operating critical financial infrastructure in production environments.
