We are seeking a Senior Officer, Site Reliability Engineer based in Hyderabad to enhance the reliability of our cloud platforms. This role focuses on operating Kubernetes clusters (EKS and AKS), managing AWS and Azure cloud infrastructure via Terraform, and developing automation and observability tools to maintain platform health. The position requires working Pacific Time hours (11:00 am to 8:00 pm IST) to cover the US West Coast business day and participate in a follow-the-sun on-call rotation, including occasional weekend support. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys hands-on infrastructure work and wants to deepen expertise in site reliability engineering within a regulated financial services environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain observability tools including OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana dashboards to monitor platform and workload health.
- Define and implement SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets, using burn-rate alerting to drive incident response.
- Improve alert quality by removing duplicates, tightening thresholds, and ensuring actionable pages with runbook links.
- Manage PagerDuty configurations, escalation policies, and schedules to ensure effective alert routing.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and manage GitOps deployment workflows with Helm, Flux, or ArgoCD.
- Automate operational tasks using scripting languages such as Python, Go, and Bash, and promote AI-assisted tools adoption.
- Participate in incident response as an incident responder or commander, handling triage, coordination, and communication.
- Troubleshoot production issues related to Kubernetes nodes, pods, networking, certificates, and cloud services.
- Operate and tune EKS and AKS clusters, including autoscaling and cluster networking components.
- Conduct blameless postmortems and track corrective actions.
- Support disaster recovery exercises and contribute to capacity planning, cost optimization, and performance tuning.
- Maintain security and compliance controls aligned with financial services regulations.
- Design for resilience with multi-AZ and multi-region strategies, safe rollout and rollback procedures, and platform hardening.
- Collaborate with product engineering, Cloud Platform, and DevEx teams to embed reliability practices and support onboarding.
- Contribute to internal documentation, runbooks, and best practices for incident management and reliability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience in site reliability engineering, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or DevOps with hands-on production ownership.
- Proficiency with Kubernetes (EKS and/or AKS) and major cloud providers (AWS and/or Azure) covering compute, storage, networking, and identity.
- Experience with Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Practical knowledge of OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, and PagerDuty or similar incident management tools.
- Strong understanding of SRE principles including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, toil reduction, and blameless postmortems.
- Experience with cluster and workload autoscaling (Karpenter, Cluster Autoscaler, KEDA, HPA).
- Familiarity with Kubernetes networking (CNI, ingress controllers) and workload identity mechanisms.
- Skilled in GitOps workflows and tools such as Helm, Flux, or ArgoCD.
- Proficient scripting and automation skills in Python, Bash, or Go; solid Linux and networking troubleshooting capabilities.
- Experience working in regulated environments with knowledge of security and compliance fundamentals.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to remain composed during incidents.
- Willingness to work Pacific Time hours from Hyderabad and participate in on-call rotations including weekends.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
- Experience with distributed tracing and log backends like Grafana Tempo, Loki, Jaeger, Elastic, or Splunk.
- Familiarity with policy-as-code tools such as Kyverno or OPA.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- Understanding of application stacks (.NET, Java, Node.js, Python) for debugging alongside product teams.
- Exposure to chaos engineering, resilience testing, and load testing tools such as k6.
- Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud environments and serverless/event-driven workloads.
- Knowledge of financial services compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001).
- Relevant certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, CKA, CKAD).
